Ah yes, two thousand thirteen. Where did you go my friend?

    ..
    .

Riding with friends on their local stuff

    Road trips

    Before...

    and after...

Humming birds in the backyard after a long ride

And birds hundreds of miles from home on Christmas eve

Magazines that think you ride in pretty cool places

and that smile that only a ride can give you

    Colorful places

    and climbs

    Riding with friends

    Fall colors

and finally getting someone to take your photograph!

    Very fine shots, indeed.

This past year, riding has mostly been peaceful rural rides. Just slowly adding to the greater jigsaw about finding what's around, in my neck of the bush. I rode more this past year than ever, by a long way. I've really enjoyed this past year and managed to visit a few rural town that I've been meaning to visit for a while.

Shots from rides along Australia's Great Dividing Range and the New South Wales South Coast.

It rained heaps in the middle of the year, when I was touring along the Divide, on the Bicentennial National Trail. Like non-stop rain, for a month and much flooding.

When it wasn't raining it was magic ... but somewhat cold. The wild life and bird life on the Divide was prolific and made up for the rain.

In February, I did a bit of coastal exploring on the South Coast Track. It was very windy, non stop ... but with tail winds in my favour, it was most enjoyable.

    My best wishes for 2014.

    Warren.

Tried to pick my favorite dozen from the year but couldn't quite cut it down that far. Amazing that none of the Sedona or Colorado pics made the cut...what a year.

    Late to the party

I didn't have any obvious pics when Mike started the thread, but I came across this photo yesterday and thought of this.

    Favorite pics of 2013?-rierdondh.jpg

Best ride of 2013, but it's kind of a bittersweet photo.

It's one of the best downhills I've ever ridden, and getting to it required a 12-mile backcountry experience, with some muddy carry-a-bike. It was socked in and raining lightly all night and most of the morning. By the time we got to the saddle visible in the distance, I was thinking "This is cool and all, but I'm not sure I need to do this again." At the top, we could barely see 20 feet. But while were hunkered down and refueling, the cloud cover started to break and we could see the valley opening up in front of us. The trail turned out to be perfect. Maybe 16" wide, rocky but not too rocky, and flowed like Jay-Z. By the time I was to the point in the photo, I was wondering when we could come back. My buddy had some connections that allowed us to stay in a fantastic cabin in the canyon just a couple miles from the trailhead, and dinner was waiting for us when we got back down.

The bitter part? Most of this ride will become Wilderness if the Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act goes through (came out of committee last fall, but who knows). And the trip was orchestrated by one of my best friends who moved to DC this month. But he swears he'll come back this summer to do this again!

Summers are all over the map, usually in Colorado but *all over the state* depending on weather and time off.

Last summer saw lots of time in Grand Junction, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Durango, Crested Butte, and even a quick hit to Prescott and Williams, AZ. All of these locations are represented in the pics below.

All things considered, a great summer.
