I have a Specialized dropper post. Once before, I broke the switch on the handlebar in a big spill, needing to get a new switch kit. Recently, I broke a small plastic tube that came off the noodle behind the switch. It worked for a while taped up, but I decided to bit the bullet and get a new switch kit, again.
Instead, my LBS owner did this:
...he used a noodle from an old v-brake
It is good for two reasons, first, the thicker silver tube at the end of the noodle is metal- on the Spesh kit it was plastic, which broke. Secondly, this noodle has a less severe bend to it, so the cable feels a little nicer as a result. Slick!
They also put a nice rubber boot on the front derailleur cable where it mounts to the FD, the way it came from the manufacturer it was getting all gunked up over time with mud.
I love that attention to detail!
