    A Confession

So, my 2 1/2 year old son has a Strider bike:

    A Confession-huhu_resize.jpg

During the day he likes to ride to the playground on the corner just down the street from home. Yesterday, my wife was angry because he kept trying to carry his bike up the stairs to the slide and wanting to ride down. She was wondering where he learned to try to ride like that.

Maybe I shouldn't have showed him those Danny MacAskill videos.

Cute -- go to the closest BMX track. Tracks are doing Strider Racers more and more.

Cute little guy and he'll be tearing up the trails in no time. Any possibility of a pump track at that playground?

This. My wife and I passed a BMX track last weekend (on a road ride), and stopped to watch a bit. It was beyond cute watching the little ones race on their Striders!

    He's crazy for Spiderman.

There's a BMX track in town, though I've never been. He's a bit too small for BMX just yet, but I'll have to look into whether there are Strider races anywhere nearby. He does a couple of other "tricks". He can do a "wheelie", where he just stands up and lifts the front wheel off the ground. He also thinks riding over manhole covers in the sidewalk is something, too.

That's awesome! What a cool kid and future shredder right there!

I have an 8 year old son, and I think I have freaked him out about riding bikes in general. I have come home a bit banged up on some rides, nothing bad, just bumps, bruises and scrapes. To him, he sees the blood or a limp and it makes him think that riding a bike in general does that to you. Sure, it may be a phase or something, because when he was 4 or 5, he was kind of gung-ho about everything. Now, fear has crept in and I am trying to figure out how to get past it. I assure him that I am not hurt, and that these things always heal up.

Keep him on that bike, and if he ever crashes, cheer and be happy! Of course, if he is really hurt, make sure he is ok first. But if it is just a small fall, freaking out over it (like a lot of moms do) can add to the mindset of fear. Just my thoughts!
