    Cactus Passion
Since someone else had to go and post a Log Ride Passion and we dont have them here I was feeling left out. Figured I could share in some pointy bush passion instead and also send warm wishes to everyone who's riding season is about to be over.

    You can eat from them.

    Ride thru forests of them

    Stare at their pretty flowers

And offer them to your friends

I don't think I have ever seen a cactus in person (but would like to at some point), and I think that picture of riding through a "forest" of them is really neat! However, I simply must take issue with this statement. Just because it gets cold in some areas does not mean the riding season is over, and in fact, the most fun season is about to start!

Just thought I would clear that up. :)

Stormwalker: Nice shot, I grew up back east & don't know how you guys/gals consistently ride in those conditions!! Core. I can't say that I miss it. Now the fatbike revolution has me thinking it's a ton more fun!!

Then again, now that I reside in AZ, I don't think twice about rolling out for a 2 hour ride at 3pm in July, usually 110 +/- a few. To each their own I guess.

The desert does have a lot of pointy things though.

I was hiking Superstition Mountain outside Phoenix years ago with three others. One guy had some pretty good hops. We're looking at a 5' high Cholla cactus bush. There must have been a million sharp thingies sticking out. You would not want to fall into it.

Hops guy says "I can jump over that". We all said yeah, but do you really want to risk that out here? Well, yes he did. He got back about 20 feet, I had my camera ready, and he indeed did clear it--sort of. His foot dragged through at about 4' but he lived.

The pic has been lost in a hard drive crash but I still think he was nuts to even try it. They call Cholla "The Jumping Cactus" because it almost seems as if the barbs will launch off the bush and stick into you.

    Here's some local mini-cactus:

I like to hug the cacti. They wouldn't be so pointy and angry if there was a little bit more love shown to them.

I carry a hair comb to get cholla balls off. Did you know that you can burn the spines of a cholla ball, cut it open and get "liquid" of it. Handy if you find yourself stranded in the middle of the desert with no water.

These are some awesome shots! It's so beautiful there. Don't see a ton of cacti in Iowa.

steiny nice Brown Mt shot. One of my favorite spots in Tucson. I love being there and looking at that saddle next to the pointy mountain in the background and knowing I came from there and have to go back.

The sonoran desert is the only place where saguaros are found. Keep an eye out of them in movies about the middle east or africa
