    Black Canyon Trail, Arizona

I was anticipating a really tough ride in two days so I decided to ride a trail I was very familiar with, and to take it easy. So I did an out and back on the Black Canyon Trail south from Black Canyon City. It was overcast most of the ride and that kept the temperatures comfortable until the sun came out toward the end of the ride. The trail was awash in more wildflowers than I have ever seen on any ride. So despite not having the best camera for the job, and my hands shaking uncontrollably, I stopped quite a bit on the return and attempted to get some plant photos.

On the way out I happened to meet three riders moving a Gila Monster off the trail and I thought that was by far the coolest thing I'd ever seen on the trail. I wish I had taken more time to get better photos, but I didn't want to disturb it too much. I felt like I could ride all day but, wanting to save myself for the big upcoming ride, I turned around and headed back after about 16.5 miles. My GPS battery went dead about a half mile from the finish, and although I started my backup GPS, I did not bother merging the two tracks. More photos on my SmugMug site and click here to see all the images on a map.

These are about the size of a dime.

Beautiful desert colours! Not much colour in our neck of the woods. Your post gives me hope that spring is coming!

Spare tubes have to be a must in that environment. Not even sure tubeless would survive.

Nice pics!! The Black Canyon Trail is a 'must ride' trail when in AZ. Tubeless is the way to go & carry a spare tube or two. Last time I checked my rear tire, I counted 35 punctures from cacti & thanks to Stan's haven't pumped it up in a couple of weeks!!

a group of us had the pleasure of riding a section of this trail last october.
    the scenery was great.
    would love to go back
we were using slime tubes and that seemed to work pretty good against the smaller punctures
