Bad Luck - Riding and otherwise.

To clear this up - I want to hear light hearted bad luck, I have had a string of it lately. I've bent a frame, broken my phone, been caught in the rain a couple times, had issues converting my tires to tubeless (a bike shop said they've done a bunch with zero issues) and I'm in a constant battle with my brake rotors.

I know in the grand scheme of things these are not that big of a deal, but I like laughing at my misfortune, and I know other folks will have some fun unlucky stories as well. So lets hear them!

Well I've been a bit bummed these last couple days, lost my thumb drive a few weeks ago, then left my phone on the my flight to iceland, then left my reading glasses on the flight home. As for my bike, about a month ago, I was carrying my lathe tools by my bike and one of my nice sharp tips slips out, flips around and went straight into my tire, the air rushed out and i was left with a nice clean one inch tear in tire and tube. Phones, glasses and tires, this life is getting expensive!

    Have fun,

Almost every time I make a major (for me) bike purchase, I have one issue that should not happen. A missing adapter or part, scratching a fork stanchion during installation, rear derailleur cable is an inch too short, etc. I purchased a Superlight frame from their website about a week ago that I will be converting to 27.5". I really wanted a 5" single pivot 27.5" frame, but nobody makes one for a decent price. Well, a day or two after I purchased the Superlight, Santa Cruz puts up some Nickels for sale. Since people have been converting those and liking those, I probably would have gone that route instead. I'd be a little more upset about it if the converted Nickels had a little lower bb height!

On a non-bike related note, I moved from Wisconsin to get away from the snow, and the first winter in North Carolina produced record snowfalls. Also the year I moved down, North Carolina implemented a pay freeze on teachers (still frozen over 5 years later, btw) and a new pay scale. Crap like that. Nothing major, just testing. I don't believe in luck. I believe in poor research, poor planning, unfortunate events, and bad situations. I also believe that everything happens for a reason, and that God tests us to see what we're made of. I fail those tests quite often!
