    Another Saturday in SW Montana

Climb 4,000 feet, have a beer, shred 5,000 feet. Have another beer.

And then head home reflecting on what a perfect day it was.

    THIS is a baddass pic!
I live with fear and danger every day. And on the weekends she lets me go mountain biking.

Thanks. You might recognize the guy in red. He's been in a few times. For that matter, my bar and stem might look familiar, too.

It's a trail in the Tobacco Root Mountains called the Curly Lake Highline. I'm sure someone might get excited about me naming it, but since it was the centerpiece of a Montana trail guidebook a few years back it's not really on the DL anymore. So go ride it, spend money in Pony, Cardwell or Whitehall, and tell them you're mountain biking.

Thanks. That yellow is incredible. It's so much brighter in person, as I'm sure you know. Unfortunately it means I can't go with the yellow production Prime now. We used to both have root beer ano frames, and it was a bit much.

Yeah, the original Hero HD model. It's in a chest mount, flipped upside down to get a shallow enough angle when I get low.

The newer GoPros take much better stills, which would be nice since I can't be bothered to edit video and don't shoot it anymore. But for as infrequently as I use it, it's not worth upgrading.

I grew up in the DC suburbs. I had a mountain bike as a kid (from Christmas in the 8th grade) and the whole time I was in high school until I got out of it in college, I used to think: "Man, I have this mountain bike; I wish I could ride it in some real mountains." When I first rode this trail a few years ago, I remembered that and felt like it had finally happened. Yay me!

West Springfield HS. My years at Va Tech just pre-dated the rise of the mtn bike.

I got skunked on Curly's last year but will be back. Mile and Sheep a bit further to the south are on my bucket list as well. So many mtns, so little time.

They're showing up for me. Maybe there's still a problem with MTBR's image hosting? The announcement about image hosting issues is still up.

I've had the same problem in other threads. I think MTBR is still having problems with photos hosted on their servers. Photos shared via URL are coming through OK.

Hopefully the pictures are back. While I'm here I'll add some photos from another Saturday (yesterday) on another of my favorite trails.

At the halfway point, people start to remember there's beer in the truck.

It rolls a little at the start, but soon starts to head down.

Stop at the creek crossing to mother up, and then head off again.

    As you were-

Into the home stretch, but with a few big trees down.

This ride is a hoot in October, provided you're wearing a lot of orange. It's trophy elk country and they can get noisy.
