    Brazil Biking

I'm going to be in brazil for a week starting on Fedbuary 5th as part of a semester at sea trip. I want to spend at least a few of those days on a mtn bike. Does anyone know of any tours or guided trips that rent bikes? It looks like this will be my only chance to ride for three months. We land in Salvador, but I can travel around. I mainly ride and race XC, but have done some downhilling.

    Some tips

I do not speak English in fact but I will try to give some tips.
There is a MTB club in Salvador called “CTR Bike Trilha”. (http://www.gtrbiketrilha.com/index.html)
They organize some trips in Salvador and places around, like Santo Amaro da Purificação.
I think they can give you some directions about guides and trips, etc.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of MTB club/groups there.
I also believe it is quite difficult to rent a good bike there – maybe you best take your own bike in a case.
An important advice is being aware in dangerous places.
You should not go biking alone in tracks near Salvador (even in the city at night).
I live there for a long so know the risks - it is a very big city.
In countryside of that state (Bahia) you can ride in safety.
In Bahia, there is an excellent place do ride in a region called “chapada diamantina” (diamond’s highlands), in cities like Lençóis, Andaraí, Mucujê and Rio de Contas (my hometown).
Its about 350 miles far from Salvador.
In this link, you can see some pictures of that.

In São Paulo, where I live now, there are many MTB groups and I know several interesting biking trips.
I use to ride in these groups:

Maybe you can get some useful in formations in those sites.
If you have a doubt about something, write me a message (sergio@itazi.com.br) or call 055 11 9729-1682.
