This happened at WhipeAss yesterday. Turner is sending me a new bike.

    The Homer thread is: here.

    Funny....

Are using a bigger than recommended shock?

I bet the homers are gathering together protecting the queen (Dave Turner) from any level of criticism for their sacred bikes.

Disclaimer: Don't try this at home or Whipeass kids!

Brocko - I know you have a reputation to uphold as the "resident parts thrasher" but breaking a frame is a bit extreme don't ya think?.

Glad to hear they're gonna replace it for you

Wow, I've never heard or seen a seat tube break before. Would this be the result of torque through the linkage or just one hell of a perfectly placed hit?

Been there, got the T-shirt. It was on a IRD full sus frame about 15 years ago. Was out about 8 miles from the car on a night ride in the Coburg hills NE of Eugene. Broke the seat tube in about the same place as Brock's broke. I am known (not!) for my extreme riding style, and my excess body mass is usually measured in grams. Rode that one home, called up Rod of IRD, when they were still an Oregon company, and he said to send it back and he put in a new seat tube. One of these days I may still rebuild it, if only for retro's sake.

How are you Larry Heckler? Are you coming down for ACM?

Is that the new Turner Air Frame? Sweet.

I'm guessing the weld immediately above the break might have had something to do it with it. I busted a Gary Fisher Sugar frame similarly a few years back -- right around the link pivot weld.

    Gonna stick with white?

The Bigger than all hell frames had some issues with breaking in that area
I have seen at least one other one break there.

If anyone can break it, it gonna be Brock. Glad to see you were taken care of so well!!
Thumbs up. Can't wait to see the new one.

I may stick with white. They have a few colors in my size right now. I first said white, but I'm having second thoughts. I'd have to wait 3 weeks for raw and a while for pink. Neither of those two are appealing to me due to the wait. If they had raw, it would be an easy choice. The big decision is: air or coil.

Only a clyde can do pink...and that's really only because no one will risk telling for how they think you look, not any particular (real or perceived) factors of coolness. I'd go with dark blue, but only because that's where I'm headed with my new Nomad.

Yup, in some manner. May have to do the 'slow poke' route depending on how far my holiday recovery has come along.

I do the pink thing solely to annoy people that are bothered by such trivial things as what color someone's "anything" is. I once heard some dipchit say they thought some dewd was ghey cuz he had a pink shirt on. He was some fat (irony understood) slob who probably couldn't tell you how to spell the "Iroc" on his '87 Iroc or how to spell the name of his hairdo (em eww el el ee tea). He's probably the sperm donor of half of the wannabe jackasses that show up to BlackRock on bighit bikes and spend all their time spinning circles around the teeter trying to fool people.

Raw just sounds cool. To be honest (why not?) I'll get whatever color they send me. That's what happened with the first Turner and my first Santa Cruz and my second Santa Cruz and my prom date...

I really don't care. Now if there were a color that actually helped my unskilled ass ride faster uphill...I'd be down...errr up for it.

    Brock...

PS: I'll be on a blue bike at ACM...oh, with a bit of raw aluminum showing...

PPS: Bob, change your sig please. It's annoying the hell out of me. Oh yeah, if you would have ridden Friday maybe I wouldn't have had to walk so freakin' far back to the car...thanks.

Ouch. Were you at least attempting to jump it or anything? I'm curious since we ride the same frame (I think...05 Pack, right?).

Please tell me you cased a road gap or something.
Please do not tell me you were cranking up a hill when it snapped.

Regardless of cause, you have my sympathies.

Oh, and I say wait for the raw. You know it'll be worth it.
