    Unofficial Barbie Thread

I'll post an Official Barbie Thread soon. Meanwhile here's what's up Barbiewise.

    Event: Spring Barbie Camp
    When: April 4-6, 2008
Where: That's the problem. All this snow is potentially changing the Barbie Zone. Mudflaps & I are crossing the Cascades on Saturday 3/8 for an exploratory mission. If we find the usual Barbie Campsite covered in snow (and we expect to), we'll search for an alternative place to camp.

Will post up upon our return.

I know this may sound like blasphemy but have you considered holding BC during summer? You know, prime camping and riding season? No mud, no snow, LOTS of trails...

    Keep the faith

S-Party. We've been through this before....somehow BC seems to go off every year in the same place without a hitch. We've made alternate plans in the past and haven't needed them. Give me a shout if you need me to run a recon mission a week or two before.

Thanks Crash, will do. The snow this year seems to be particularly deep. I have a BBR backyard webcam bookmarked and even it shows plenty of white stuff on the ground at the moment. Substantial snow @BBR in March is unusual even in heavy snow years.

So we wanna go look at the ground, even though we're 4 weeks out. I remember a nice looking prospective camping area on Peterson Ridge Trail a mile or two south of Sisters... irrigation canal runs through it. Wanna check that place out (dunno if it's in the nat'l forest?)

Nat, Barbie Camp is Barbie Camp. DOD's calendar includes thousands of other (non-Barbie) campouts throughout the rest of the year, none of which are to be confused with Barbie Camp -- she's a one-of-a-kind fling and we accept her on her seasonal terms.

    --Davey

P.S. Okay, not really thousands. More like dozens.

How indeed? As I recall, when I've seen you there (thanks for your guide work on PR/Tr 99, what a gem of a ride!), you showed up for the day and missed all the evening events . That said, you've only experienced a skimming of the true BC flavor...
You ought to stay the weekend once, just tell the missus it's an important meeting of foot fetishisits, er, podiatitrists.

I might've stayed if it weren't so cold, dark, and outdoors at night. Brrrrrrr! I'm more of a 4-star hotel kind-of-guy.

Chester is the name of my van. Sign on the outside says "Free candy." No door handles on the inside.

Watch what you say Nat, 'cause once Sparty gets you inside of Chester, he'll make sure yer "getting it" and then some.

He may not help you out, but he'll help himself in.

But don't worry, it WILL be free, the only cost is the loss of your innocence.

    Update on BC conditions_March 8

So Sparty & I just returned from the BC Zone with some interesting news.
Here is what it looked like as we were driving over.

Suttle Lake frozen over, it's not looking good.

There was some open water on the west end, we also spotted some on the east end, near the lodge.

What to our wondering eyes should appear when we actually got to the Barbie Zone.
    Sparty approaches the campfire ring.

    Oh Barbie....

She has such a way with nature. Such a giving soul and she works miracles. I though Sparty would be standing ankle deep at BC sight for sure. Good to know.

Sisters area didn't get near what I got at my house (west side of Bend, near Shevlin Park) this winter. Our friend lives out there, and kept giving us sh!t because his pasture was mud, and our lawn had 15 inches of snow.
Knock on wood, looks like things are going to be good for BC!
