    Umpqua area beta

Anyone been out on any of the trails in this area? <click link

Elkhorn Trail, Bunchgrass Meadows Trail, Beaver creek trail?

Heading there in a few weeks and not sure if it's "bring a bike" worthy - especially this time of year. Looks like a pretty remote area.

    thanks

Wisky camp isn't under bookoo snow right now?
Oakridge is showing 1500' snow level.

Yeah, definitely worth riding in season. That's a rather high blowdown area as well most winters.

I was thinking the same thing. My wife rented the little guard station there and talked to the ranger beforehand and the ranger made it sound like snow wouldn't be a problem. I have my doubts as this is 3500 feet...

My main concern is whether I can drive into the camp.

Ah, that's cool. I've always wanted to rent out one of the stations or lookouts. They must be breaking track or plowing up to it through winter. Riding or no riding it's a beautiful area. The view of Theilsen from that side is really neat. Enjoy.

I stayed at the Pickett Butte lookout at the end of January, at 3,400'. Drove right up to without any issues in a 2wd pickup. Some tiny patches of snow. No idea on what they've gotten recently. Tried driving up to the Whisky Camp cabin, there was enough snow on the road that I didn't feel like chaining up. I'm thinking you would be good, but always worth calling the Tiller Ranger Station.

If you have the room, why not? Looked like lots of nice dirt roads to explore. No idea on singletrack down there. Call the Tiller Ranger Station, super nice folks.
