    Trails around John Day area?

I'll be in the area around John Day / Prairie City the week of Memorial Day. What are some good trails in that area for an intermediate rider on a 29er HT ? I know there's tons of stuff around Bend, but I won't be venturing that far away from "base" this trip.

I have heard of some great gravel grinding in the painted hills unit of the John Day Fossil Beds. Here is a short article about a gravel ride around Sutton Mountain...

Not single track, but great scenery.

I tried the NF Malheur ride a couple years ago and was turned back after a mile by the FS because of a fire. Its a very pretty area and looks like it could be a great ride, great little camp spot just up from the trailhead. Check out this website for some info, this site is actually a great resource for obscure hikes (rides) in Oregon.

A-way back when, I wrote some Northwest mountain bike race reports for Velo News. One of them took me to Lehman Hot Springs, near Ukiah (?). I remember some nice singletrack there. (This was 1995'ish)

You got my curiousity going, so I did a search: https://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trai...lid=BGW051-029

This club should have some good info on the area: Trails of the Blue Mountain Singletrack Trails Club
