    trail resources?

Does anyone have a good trail resource (book or web site) for Oregon - specifically Portland-Hood-Gorge areas. I've just recently gotten back into riding (only a few year layoff - stolen bike ) with most of my prior experience was down in the Ashland area. The trail section on MTBR seems pretty outdated on reviews and I'd like some maps - and GPS if possible - to keep my a$$ from getting lost. Thanks!

The maps can be purchased at the LBS in Hood River or Portland for $9.
Start off slow & taper off from there.

I moved to Portland a year ago and bought every trail guide book I could find. The best one IMO is "Mountain Biking Oregon" by Lizann Dunegan. It covers the whole state, which is good and bad. It has good descriptions of a lot of trails within 1-2 hours of portland, but since it covers most of the state, it is also missing some of the trails discussed on this forum. I also picked up a map of Mt Hood area at the LBS in Hood River (forgot the name), which was very informative.

We the people ... Trail info...

"Mountain Bike! Southwest Washington: A Guide to Trails & Adventure" By John Zilly has some pretty good info for SW WA. You can get some of that info here:
    NWSource

Dirtworld has some more outdated trail info:
    http://www.dirtworld.com/trails/

Localhikes.com has some more recent info:
    http://www.localhikes.com/

    Forest service sites are usefull:
    http://www.fs.fed.us

    OregonLive has some info:
    OregonLive Outdoors

Discover Bikes has some good info:
    http://www.discoverbicycles.com/trails.cfm

If you need maps check out Nature of the NW:
    http://www.naturenw.org/

Your LBS will be a usefull resource as well. I know Fat Tire Farm has just about every book written avaliable for you to look through so you can choose what book you want to buy.

There is lots of info out there, just google trail names... even if the reviews on mtbr are old, they still tell ya if there is a trail there and how to get to it. Buy a GPS and go explore, thats what I did.

The forums here are invaluable if you need specific help just ask.

Thanks all - that is good information. Does anyone GPS their rides and then post the downloads afterwards? That would be cool to see.
