Yeah I heard it last time out there after seeing scat and tracks (they mark their territory by leaving scat in the middle of the road). You'd be surprised at how many local trails are in the middle of big cat territory. Nothing to worry about IMHO, they're more scared of you than the other way around!

    Have FUN!

I have seen cougar twice, neither time at scappoose. Both times they were hustling away from me.

this one definitely looked like it was in a hurry to get far away from my car. it looked like a juvenile - probably recently ejected from mom's care and doesn't know where to go. i'd only be worried if i was riding there at dusk aka feeding time.

Just four weeks ago walking the DH bikes up the gravel road to get as high up Dixie as possible we heard a large cat scream. So we yelled back.

The Dixie Mountain MTB trails are very nice, and there are lots of them, in different skill sets. Need to find dig schedules for that place!

Rocky Point Road MTB trails are on the East side of Dixie Mountain, just south of Scappoose, Oregon. About 20 minutes north of Portland.

Seen nothing but Cougar in Scappoose. Usually haggard, lack a dental plan, & like big trucks.
