The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

Not a troll here, just wondering...

What is the reasoning behind closing areas during fire season? I went to hike the Salmonberry Trail last week and its closed every summer during fire season. I could understand banning camping, but does biking or hiking really increase fire danger?

Keeping ALL users out reduces the danger of a human-initiated blaze. Regardless of the cause, if there is a fire crews can focus on putting it down rather than locating adn possibly rescuing campers, hikers AND bikers.

just another example of Big Insurance controlling our lives.

As much as it doesn't make sense - my bike doesn't spark and neither do I - I'll continue to abide bc I don't want to be part of the reason a cool trail is closed.

Think the recent rain will quickly lift the fire danger closure?

Nope. Drove to the trail head today and the signs are still up. Looking at the warming trend in the weather forecast it seems to me that these trails will be closed for some time.

Anyone been by the trail head lately?

I was just wondering if these trails have opened back up yet.

I've heard it will take two weeks of rain before they open the trails again. For current information, call John Joy. He is the NWTA Scappoose rep, talks to the land manager regularly, and lives in the area.
