If you ride Sandy Ridge during the day, weekdays, please note the following-- there will be truck traffic this summer, so use caution and stay to the right as you ride up.
- Sandy Ridge is NOT being harvested-- other private land near Sandy Ridge is being logged
- USFS has granted use of Homestead Rd/USFS 14 for the timber operation hauling
- Trucks will be on road M-F (non-holiday weekdays) appx 6a-4p
- Permit granted through October but hopefully it will be done mid-summer
From the BLM:
"USER NOTICE: Timber harvest on private lands in the vicinity of Sandy Ridge will begin on May 6th. Homestead Road/USFS 14 will be actively used for timber haul during the summer of 2013. Active hauling (up to 20 loads per day) will take place on non-holiday weekdays, primarily between the hours of 6 am and 4 pm daily. Users should consider using the system outside of the affected hours. Those visiting during the week should exercise extreme caution and utilize the designated bike lane."
The timber company is aware of the heavy recreational use of the road. As riders, let's try to make this easy for everyone and stay to the right when climbing up the road. It's not an ideal situation, by far, but hopefully they can get done w/ the harvest and be gone from the road ASAP.
