Riding and Bike Rental in Eugene?

    Hello -

I am looking at possibly being in Eugene for a week in the middle of August. I would appreciate any info on nearby trails and a good place to rent a bike.

Friends don let friends ride road bikes.

    You will need a vehicle.

I don't know who rents but I like the crew at Life Cycle and at Paul's Bicycle Way of Life.

Here's a list, in order of increasing distance from town. It jumps immediately to a 30-min drive after the first item:
    Alsea Falls
    Oakridge (Hardesty)
    Oakridge (the rest)

North Shore Trail (on Lookout Point Lake) and Whypass (3 mi. west of Lorane) are the two closest significant places to Eugene to ride, both about 30 minutes from town. The Ridgeline Trail is in town but I just can't quite call it significant. Though Ridgeline does offer the ability to grab a quickie, there's inadequate inventory and likely too much foot traffic in August.

Goodman Creek / Eagle's Rest aren't much farther than Whypass or NST, park at the Hardesty TH near the 21 mile post on Hwy 58. Prepare to climb through some stunning old growth jungle for the rewarding view at the top of Eagle's Rest. The roller coaster return is well worth time spent in the car to get there. Should be dry enough to ride by August. Watch out for hikers.

We don't quit riding because we get old.
