    Phils trail conditions

Anyone been out there recently? With the warm weather I was hoping that the snow may be gone.

To be BLUNT. Don't even think about it. The trails are muddy and riding will cause DAMAGE. Hit Horse Butte, Horse Ridge, Maston, or the Radlands in Redmond. Thanks!!!!!

So I am wondering about the jump lines at Phil's. Also the short trails around the parking area and up to the parking from town... are those good to go now and do people right them during the freeze-thaw cycle? I would check myself but don't live in Bend, yet...

Maston especially. The new trails are awesome. Also don't forget Radlands work event this Saturday, March 9. Details here:

So is Maston past the "frozen very early yet muddy in the pm" mode? I may hit it wed. or thurs., first time all winter.

The weather may be a factor. Conditions are great at Maston. Keep an eye on the forecast. Cheers!!!

I've been avoiding Maston up to this point because I hate riding in any winter mud. But I finally made it out there today, first time all winter. It's perfect! No mud at all, even in early afternoon. It was quite crowded at the new TH parking lot today, and I expect the same the next two days (of which I have off work )

Good to hear. Big crowd at Horse Ridge this weekend but the whole upper ridge traverse length of the trail was gooey mud and puddles. Pretty damaging conditions it seemed to me. There are small patches of snow up there.

And on topic, the skiing up from skyliner around tumalo falls is still really nice; trails are buried everywhere up there other than full exposure south-facing.

Riding through the mud at Horse Ridge doesn't actually do much damage, as long as people ride through the mud and not around it, which widens the trail. The tread is so sandy once it dries out that any ruts that form just turn back to sand during the summer. The trails at Phils are (believe or not) much less sandy than H.R. or Maston, and the ruts damage the tread in the long run and will not disappear without trail work. Also, people dumb enough to ride at Phils when it's muddy, also are dumb enough to ride around the mud, further widening the already wide singletrack.

Agreed about the Rim Trail. Just got back from there, for the 2nd day in a row. That trail is soooo sweet, albeit too short.

I find it difficult to get in a fun rhythm/flow due to so many rocks.
A bumpy climb followed by a too-quick thrill ride. (prom night)

I do it to say I did, then off to the other spots...

    Re: Phils trail conditions

Is Phil's still muddy at this point. I am from out of the area and will be in town this weekend for skiing but would love to get in a ride up there if it is not going to mess things up. Sounds like it has been dry of late.

Has anyone ridden the trails on the western half of Horse Ridge? I'm specifically thinking of the Stookey Flat and Ford Rd. area trails. Are they nice and rolling? Any good technical sections?
