    Phils Canyon landscaping?

Rode down Phils Cyn on Sat. and was shocked to see that someone had comfortized the prominent root by the steep hill section with some rock landscaping.

    Why?

The last time I rode there, I, too saw some disconcerting things. There is one very tame section of trail with a very, very rideable root on it. We're talking a root maybe three inches high. Some wise guy decided to make a reroute around it! Several people must have, as the reroute looked well traveled. I put a big boulder on the rerouted trail. This was in August. I hope that boulder is still there.

    It sickens,... it really does.

    Gents,

I am the trail steward for Phil's Canyon for COTA. I am the person who added the rock to fit in below the root. The root was becoming an issue due to erosion. My focus is to preserve the trail. I am working on the section in general to make it more interesting. This is a longer term project. There are some cool features we can incorporate within the rocks in that section specifically. You may have noticed the drainage work on that section as well. Chris Kratch (COTA) and I have worked hard on this section to improve it. It will take more time.

Thanks for the feedack. Always tough to please everyone!
