Oregon Enduro finals @ ski bowl. What happened?

    Anyone seen this?

2013 Oregon Enduro Finals - Photo Epic - Pinkbike

Looks amazing. Props to Mike for his great photos of course, but I have to say I visited ski bowl a few years ago and it was aweful.

Have they done a bunch of work on making better trails?

    Anyone been up there recently?

    Thanks

I am not sure, but I have read that the "cool" sections of the SKI-BOWL course are off limits. I viewed a few pictures from Pinkbike a while ago and thought the place looked challenging and dynamic. Apparently these sections are only for "racing". I have no facts to back this up, btw. What a drag.

There was only one of the Ski Bowl trails used. Most of those photos are of Sandy, and trails on the Mt Hood side of the highway.

Ski Bowl is awesome! Great DH trails up there I was riding the tracks about once a week. I heard they are planning to open the pro tracks up by the end of the year and have flagged new trails for approval. Only downside is the lift speed as it takes a while to get to the top by riding two fixed double chairs.

Any reason why the "pro" tracks are not already open? Just curious...that "pro" thing cracks me up.

Yeah I have ridden sandy ridge before. Wasn't super excited about it, but it's been a couple seasons.

Love the views from the trail they used at Ski Bowl.

I'd like to go visit both again soon.

Follow the Leader is the best trail in the region. You will not be disappointed.

It sort of makes sense. The Ski Bowl run was nothing but braking bumps for every section that was open to general riding, which was in no small part due to the majority of their riders being unskilled tourists on hardtail rentals. The restricted "pro" sections would probably kill several of those folks per day if they were opened up. Keep in mind we didn't actually race all the stuff they refer to as "pro," only the upper DH run and a little taste of the forest section. The lower section is a bit less puckery than Ridge but stuffed full of rocky gnar and usually has crash pads and medics staffed at one of the boulder chutes for the DH races. It's pretty corny to use "pro" as a trail label but I can see why they're closing that stuff up.

EDIT: not that a legit bike park would close trails for either of these reasons...
