Normally Post Canyon in Hood River would be your best bet for freeride stuff. However, I believe the season's pretty much done there as the rain and (I've heard) snow, is starting to fall here and there.

Syncline, across the river from Hood River, is a fun downhill run. Not long, especially if you're shuttling. But still fun.

Also, there's Ski Bowl, but their MTB season just ended. However, even when they are in full swing, it's not much to brag about. Seems most people just head to Post Canyon when they are in that neck of the woods.

Please be aware of the land owner's concerns about riding Syncline this month, it's posted here: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.ph...47#post3596047

Mt Hood/Hwy 44 area trails are in tip top shape, recent rains have settled the dust and covered the trails with a nice blanket of fir needles.

Oh, right. Forgot about that. Don't take your dog with you; it could be mistaken for a deer and shot. Or it could torment the wildlife and then be shot by the landowners.

Just kidding. But the landowners aren't. No, they won't shoot your dog. But still, respect their wishes and leave Fido/Rex/Killer at home.

Oh, and as far as any FR/DH stuff off hwy 44...there's not much. Maybe shuttle Dog River (or is it Dog Creek?), but if you're taking a dedicated FR machine, the climbs'll wear you down pretty quickly.
