Thinking of going out today. Any updates to the trail conditions?

Is there any clear ones left near Bend?

with how cold it has been, I doubt the Ice snow melted off... when the snow is soft, its cake.

Our milder temps this week may help. Plan on hitting Maston on Saturday at some point.

The frustrating thing (for me, as a biker), is it is to be much warmer all week at Bachelor than here in town, due to inversion. We've had a good December, snow-wise; let's call it winter and be done with it!

Agreed DF!!! Skiing has been nice, but I am so much more committed to biking. Time to head out there! The sunshine today looks good. It is about 52 in my backyard right now. Must be at least 5 degrees warmer at Maston. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Seedy and I rode the Maston last nite and had a great ride. Conditions are typical of our winter frost heaving conditions. If you catch it while its frozen you'll be flying down the trail having a blast. Catch it during the warmth of the day and you'll be riding in the mud and puddles. The trail is pretty much snow free with only a few small patches on the protected northern exposures. There are lots of puddles in the whoops as the moisture has no where to go right now as the sub surface is still quite frozen.

So if you're looking for a nice warm mid-day ride, I'd give it another week. If you're ready to get out in the morning before the thaw its ready ride. No fat bike needed.

    Getting better - maston

Was out there with about half of Bend around 11 AM trying out the single speed.

Good trail conditions except for a couple miles of freeze/thaw mud areas.

Definitely ride early as the muddy areas are getting rutted.

Radlands might be nice and closer to home the Eastgate natural area east of Bend is also good to try and helps to even out the horse divots; Mostly dirt roads though.

Nice out at Maston this weekend. Some mud, but overall great conditions for January!

    Quagmire

Went out for a night ride last night at Maston and it was a mess. So much so that we ended up riding the powerline roads as the trails were just way too muddy and soft. Lots of standing water and quicksand.
I do not reccomend going out there until it freezes HARD again or dries out.

Horse Butte trails were the same way. Looking at the weather it doesn't look like we will dry out or et cold enough in the next week or so.

Size: 174.9 KBStill a couple gooey sections - was out there yesterday. I would stay off of the sections marked in the pic for a bit longer. The rest was great with just a few wet sections.

Yeah muddy conditions continue if you plan to ride mid day. Can't say it enough; get out early and the trails are rippin' fast and fun. Go late and struggle through a mud slurry that ruins the trails and your drivetrain.

Nice that it is back to freezing at night again.
