    Where are you coming from?

Currently, both courses are available to ride. There's some clearing and dirt work to be done still, but that's it. The entrance to the Cat. 1 DH is hidden pretty well, so you might want to get in touch with the promoter for practice...

FYI, there are scheduled work days every other Sunday leading up to the event. I'll post the schedule when I'm near a real computer...

I am over in Klamath Falls. Our trails are to muddy to ride, so I've been coming over and riding Applegate area but looking for something more technical and challenging. Let me know about the work schedule and I'll make it over for that...

    Might head over today...

I'm not the promoter... Saying that, I wouldn't send beginners down the planned DH course. I know plenty of Cat 3 people who could do it, but they've just never entered a race before. The graph I have says you lose around 600 feet of elevation before you get to the half way point.

I'm pretty sure the beginners will have a different drop-in point. Just keep watching my posts on FB.

    Jacksonville Bike Fest

The course is open to all, I would recommend you keep to the lower sections & Super D course as the Upper Downhill section has not been finished yet. All the course profiles are available on www.echelonevents.webs.com on the side bar or under the Calender section. You can also contact me directly off the web site & I can answer any additional questions you might have.

    Thanks,
    Joe Davis

If you have any. The city can supply some if we know we need some. Most of our trail workers have their own tools.
May be a very small crew tomorrow due to the Super Bowl and other engagements.

Thanks to all the peeps that have been coming out to help with the trail work. The DH course is coming along but not quite done yet. We have some berms to build and trail armoring to do.
It is a bit hard to find. Once you get to the upper flat follow the orange maxxis ribbon to the the trail head. Look for a small pine that that has multi colored ribbon hanging from it. That is the start of the dh course.

We are continuing with our work days untill complete. See the dates on our blog below.

I know the area pretty decent, Is the upper flat the upper parking area. i think there are some campgrounds up there as well. or are you talking about past that where there is a nice view of central point and table rocks?

At the Table Rock overlook there is a very rough road that goes up hill to the south. If your driving be careful as that road is rough. Unless you have a 4x4 I would recommend parking at the overlook and riding in from there
Go up that road and follow the orange maxxis ribbon. Follow the maxxis ribbon until you come to a small tree with multi colored ribbon. That is the upper DH "Secret Squirrel" trailhead.

MRA is grading the main road up from the MRA staging area to the overlook. It has become fairly muddy because of the recent rain and road work. Unless you have 4x4 I would wait until it dries a bit. Hope that gets you there.

Here's a few teaser pics of the course. There's still work to be done here and there, but it's coming together...

    Squirrel trail:

    Steep!

    Left hand sweeper.

Coming into a drop to the left, or roller to the right...

    Drop landing:

    Drop run-out:

    S-turn section to a berm:

Sorry for the quality, these were grabbed from our Facebook page. (Thanks Mike.) This is just a taste of the trail. Hopefully more pics to come...

Those pics are from the DH actually. (Upper section.) The Super D doesn't use this track, but does use a trail below this... (They share one section.)

    No doubt!
I've ridden it a couple of times now and while most can get down it, as soon as you try letting loose of the brakes and the speed comes up, reacting to the steep fast corners with trees all around becomes quite the challange and blowing up can become easy! The drop is tricky when done fast, and the rocks that are scattered throughout make this a very worthy DH!
    Great job guys!
    The shuttle is tough!

Definitely going to need maintenance. Thats why we are trying to make it sustainable as possible given the grade. Remember. This is a DH COURSE.

We were also a bit short on time and choices when we were approached by the promoter and the city to build a course. 4 months to build something from scratch. This particular route was mostly already there and connects well to the lower DH "Cantrall Gulch" .

If we would have had more heads up we could have found a different upper section. That said. I think it is going to be a nasty DH. Its definitely worthy of DH status. Unlike the Spring Thaw.

Next year we will likely move the upper section to something a bit more sustainable.

Nope, but I want to be there...!

I was only commenting due to the fresh dirt with few tracks. My mind fast forwarded to the end of the race weekend, what it's gonna look like after several hundred DH runs gone by.

Looks like alotta fun! Kinda looks like you might need to scrub it a little off that drop...

Someone needs to do a helmet cam of the Super D course so us out of towners can pre-ride it a bit...

There is camping at the upper MRA staging area. Which is where the start of the Super D is. Plenty of campsites with fire rings.

Go up Jacksonville Reservoir Rd. to the upper MRA area aka start of the Super D. You will see campsites around. No fees. Maybe make a donation to the MRA.

Lodging in Jacksonville is a bit spendy since it is a tourist trap. Medford has all types of lodging and is just 4 miles away.

Thanks for the info. About how long of a drive is it up to Valley of the Rogue SP? Looks like 15 or so to Medford?

Will there be a shuttle for practice on Saturday or do you need a vehicle to get yourself back up? Not a ton of specific info on the site (or Im missing it) Thanks.

Yeah. There will be no shuttle supplied by the promoter for practice. With the Super D being on Saturday it makes it difficult to have shuttles as the access road will be closed during the event. SOFA has considered providing some shuttle runs on Friday for the Super D and after the Super D on Saturday for DH. If SOFA ends up offering shuttle runs we will post it here as well as our site and pass the info to Echelon.
