Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! Important meeting to discuss the future of the Disciples of Dirt and MTB Eugene

    Meeting: 6pm Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Cozmic Pizza, 199 W. 8th Ave, at the corner of Charnelton, Downtown Eugene

Pizza, beer, wine available. No host.
Meeting will be brief -- approx 1 hour.

The Disciples of Dirt Mountain Bike Club and MTB Eugene are merging. The new
organization will be called the DOD.

DOD will become a chapter of The International Mountain Biking Association
(IMBA). There will be benefits in doing so. Developing relationships with
various land management agencies plus the potential for mountain bike access to
ongoing local urban trail projects prompt the club merger and IMBA association
now. The DOD / MTB Eugene / IMBA partnership will give us a stronger local
voice, support for trail access & development, benefit administration, financial
& tax issues. DOD will gain legitimacy and credibility in the eyes of cities,
the county and federal land management agencies. DOD will be able to apply for
various grants for trail projects plus trail building / trail maintenance

In order for this to happen, DOD needs to formalize its status and
organizational structure. We'll need a 6-8 member board, committees, formal
membership list, by-laws. We need input from current members to discuss and
identify our priorities as a club. Certainly there may be questions or concerns
about if or how this new organizational structure might impact the "feel" of
what has long been primarily a riding / social organization (speaking
specifically of DOD here). This is one of the things we'll talk about.

Come to this meeting, and help shape the future of the MTB scene in and around Eugene. Thanks.

Last night was the "Important meeting about the future of the DOD" We're pleased to say that the meeting was a rousing success. We had 45 people attend, and they all seemed interested in helping ensure that we have more opportunities for MTB in and around Eugene. We discussed the plans to become an IMBA Chapter and what that will mean.

We explained that there was a $500 application fee, and the generous group attending pulled out their wallets and kicked down $320 in cash toward the application. After the meeting, an anonymous MTB supporter agreed to cover the remaining balance, so that means we now have our funding in place to submit our application. Thank you Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous for your generosity!!

Scott Taylor, promoter of the Cascade Creampuff pledged to donate $500 to the DOD as soon as we become an IMBA Chapter. Todd, the bike builder behind Bronto MTB Co. (from Springfield, OR) agreed to donate a steel frame (custom?) for the DOD to raffle off as a fundraiser. Those were both very generous gifts, and if you get the chance, thank Scott and Todd.

Next steps will be forming a Board, creating Bylaws and working on our IMBA Chapter application. In the meantime, we have a trail work project planned for either Nov 7 or 14 on the Headwaters trail here in Eugene. We will announce the official date by Friday (hopefully.) We will also announce a trail work schedule for Whypass trail maintenance within the week. We anticipate working 1
weekend per month from December through February at Whypass.

We will be updating the group as we move forward in this process. If anyone missed last night's meeting, but is interested in getting involved in the development of our group, please email me directly at

Barbie Camp is this weekend, and we are working on details for ACM7 in Jan 2011.

    Stay tuned for more details,

    mAtt, Davey and Steve

    Check out our generous sponsors:
