Are Horses allowed on Tumalo Creek Trail in Bend?

Almost had a head on collision with a group of three equestrians today. I believe the answer is no. That being said, the group was adamant about their supposed rights.... Just checking.

Hmm, to my knowledge, all COTA adopted trails (except maybe the Radlands) are open to all non-motorized users. Some, such as a good chunk of the Fremont and certain miles on Metolius-Windigo, see more equestrian than biker use. It's my understanding from the president of OET's Central Oregon chapter (Oregon Equestrian Trails) a few years back horse riders have deliberately chosen to avoid the Phil's network due to the high potential for user conflict (obvious conclusion is obvious ). But, legally, they could ride there if they so chose.

I'm hopeful that the answer is NO!!...Don't mean to offend our fellow outdoor recreationalist but horses destroy MTB single track. For example, I hit up PRT at the onset of the season and discovered that one lone horseback rider had hit about a 1.5 mile section on PRT East (which is definitely closed to equestrian travelers) and it tore the track up - kinda felt like driving a car on washboard....

Just observing how the Forrest Service website is laid out, they seem to list the trail, then show below what is allowed on the trail. Funny thing is that they don't note restrictions, so if for example you click on 'Whoops' lets say, it does not show hiking or horse use.

They on top of that, you can go to the Horse trail listing here, and Tumalo Creek is not on it.

I don't think phil's area is open to Horses. There are quite a few signs which show no horses on it (to minimize conflict) all many of the MTB trails in bend.

How far up does that restriction extend? I suppose a call to someone at the Forest Service might help.

I think it's more of an indication of how long it's been since I actually rode through the Phils parking lot rather than coming in some other way. Though Phil's is not Tumalo Creek...

Could be!!! The sight lines on Tumalo Creek are not good and that made this even worse. Luckily it did not end ugly for me. I was cruising pretty fast. Also interesting to note how quickly horses damage the tread. The rest of my ride to the little bridge before the camp area was really rough......

So true. Hate riding over the washboard or wavy surface. Makes your teeth chatter!!
