    high cascades

    hey all

coming up from norcal. ill be riding the SS category. my usual ride here consists of about 5k feet and about 30 dirt miles...usually about 3 hours....

    i ride a 29er, 34x19

any thoughts of how i should change my gearing? if at all.....

    Re: high cascades

Ride your route three times back to back. If you can finish that route in less than 15 hours you've got the proper gearing.
Thus killing two birds with one stone: answers your question, and makes a huge deposit to your fitness piggy bank.

If you don't have fitness, you don't have a chance regardless if gearing. Good luck!

Nothing is wildly steep except the climb from Lava Lake to Edison Snow Park. I want FS and gears but if you can do it on a SS HT I tip my hat to you. It is a long time in the saddle.

And even that's not "wildly steep"!

It feels very steep after all those miles.

I think that's the gearing used by the SS winner last year. I ran 34x20 sweeping the course and that was fine.
