    Flagline Options

My bro is coming up to ride and I'd like to take him up to FL. He's not a strong climber so best if we avoid NF as part of the loop. I'm thinking of starting at Dutchman or Swampy. Can the the snowmobile road/trail along 46 be used to complete a loop starting from Dutchman and taking FLA-FL-FLT-RL or is it a big sand pit this time of year? We could ride back on 46 but he hates riding on roads.

Usually, only one short section is a sand pit. That's very doable.

I just noticed I could do a fake loop like this: FLA-FL-FLT-RL-Swampy-TR#52.1-FL (headed back to Dutchman).

Park at Swampy, in to Flagline, then an out-and-back on Flagline. Just keep your eye's open for fast descending traffic. It's not that bad to climb, and any loop at that elevation is going to kill a "not strong climber".

PS: It's also good to look at some of the rock features on Flagline higher up, while climbing.

I wanted to avoid an out and back but I think you are right on the money. And he is coming from seal level so he'll feel the altitude for sure.

Could you drive up 370 and put in right there where the Broken top trail intersects 370? I think this would be less climbing that the dutchman climb. I just took a friend from portland from Dutchman to bend, and he did fine, but that climb out of dutchman is a little painful.
