Mike, whom I hadn't ridden with in over a decade, was a surprise visitor that MaxSteel brought along today. Mike hadn't been on a trail in a long time, but none of us was the wiser. His new bike needed a dose of singletrack since he'd had it an awfully long time without exposing it to the good stuff. He'd picked it up from the shop yesterday. Just to make it official, he crashed it a couple times too.
Ian was there to keep us all cracking up all day too, and became a singlespeed rider late in the day I heard MaxSteel laughing out loud a few times on the last stretch as we were dancing and drifting through the twists and turns before it was all over.
I didn't take a lot of photos, just one action shot each, and a shot of the crew lounging in the sun at the turnaround spot partaking of nutritious treats. MaxSteel will probably come along with a few more shots later, please MS!
Great day on MRT for the four of us. That is until Ian ripped his derailleur off, then it was a great day for 3 of us.
A friend of mine picked up a new bike yesterday. A Gary Fisher ProCaliber. First thing he did was swap the spindly SID for a Fox 100 (RL I think). He happens to be a really fit, strong roadie that mountainbiked with Mudflaps 20 years ago and just woke up and bought another bike. His skills, near as I could tell weren't too rusty, but he rode away from me so fast I couldn't watch for long. (I was single speed, otherwise, you know...) Anyhow I didn't take many pics, but some of you old timers and sometimes roadies will recognize the newbie and can welcome him to the woods.
The trail has a few blow downs, but overall in great shape and very fast.
FWIW - I started a thread called "Deflowering a virgin bike" at: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.ph...62052#poststop
guess you missed the reference Max. Look forward to next weekend's festivities at Barbie Camp
Sadly, that's all I have. We were too busy riding, and greeting other trail users. Happy to report all exchanges were friendly, whether other cyclists or hikers or trail runners. All folks out seemed to be having a good day.
Looks pretty good.
I had to abort a trip down there last weekend after my youngest son broke his femur in a wrestling match with his older brother.
I'm still on for BC and hoping to incorporate some time on the McKenzie at some point next weekend.
Flaps and Maxsteel- great to see Mike got out with you guys! He's been riding on the road and doing some cross stuff with us recently too~ good to see he's riding more dirt!
All you future Puffers, be sure to include Mike in your training rides. The Puff is his bogie for next summer, and he will train hard for it. In fact, he needs someone to watch out so he doesn't overtrain!
I have contact info for him if anybody needs it. He is supposed to be making himself known on DOD and here on MTBR soon.
The little vixen on the right.... oh... nevermind....
Great pix, what an awesome looking place.
His comment at that time, "these vertical stripes make me look slimmer, right?" As I mentioned earlier, Ian was there to keep us all crackiing up all day, and he came through...
I wouldn't have gone, but sheesh, not gettin' the invite really hurts. You know how good I am at hangin' off the back and whining. What gives?

Better check yer specs there Sparty, it was right there on the DOD chatter board, posted by MaxSteel. I replied by phone just to be sure, so my response was never in cyberspace, but the invite was!

It hurts when you point out my personal failings. This only proves that I need others to look out for my needs and take care of me. I am a victim. Isn't there a Government program under which I can receive a monthly check?
Sparty is soooo old, we probably should have told his nurse so she could remind him to put on his underwear and get on his newwwww virgin bike! Talk about deflowering, I should make the Wednesday niter this week just because Sparty will have to bring the beer to inaugurate his new ride!!
MRT was a really nice ride and yes, only one rider was under 52 and he was 45. Young whipper snapper! Doesn't mean we were slow though!!
FB, check this thread for some recent MRT photos that will amaze.

Actually, it was not posted to the DOD list, as far as I can see. Check my email archives and the group message archives. Nada.

Shiggy, you need specs too. It was contained in a thread about the trailwork party, clipped below:

I want to do a really cool ride Sunday. A roadie friend will have
most likely have a brand new sparkling clean GF ProCaliber to get all
muddied up. Maybe MRT? Maybe Middlefork?

Sheesh! - Do I have to do the reading for everybody in the DOD that's over 40?

You call THAT a ride announcement?!? It was a tack-on to a post about trailwork! Besides, it sounds so tentative all the way through... "I want to...", not "I'm going to..."; "...most likely..."; maybe this, maybe that. You know what I'm talkin' about.
I want my money back. I want my respect back, too. Dang whippersnappers... gimme my cane... gonna smack one of 'em...

*sigh* BTWs on other long threads do not work. I read that post twice with seeing it. hmmm...looked again and it was a reply to his own reply. That gets lost as it can look like a duplicate post.
