Deer Carcass on the Trail - Sisters - Peterson Ridge

Saw this today on Peterson Ridge on PRT West - 3 miles or so from the trailhead... Quite a sight. Not sure if this was a hunter who dumped this dead Deer. It sure looks deliberate.....Although, I am open to ideas....

Maybe it saw that "buck attacks MTBer" video and thought it would give it a try, and lost.

Definitely a hunter. Hindquarters in the foreground have been boned out (poorly by the look of it). How much of the rest of it was intact? Idiots, it's not hard to drag that stuff off the trail.

The carcass was carved out. Best meat was gone. Still looks deliberate to me! Almost placed on the trail to piss off mtber's.

Is it safe to ride out at PR this time of year with all the trigger happy hunters? Or are they staying away from the land with the popular bike trails?

I just rode the T'winks/Steve Larsen/Funner loop. On the Steve Larsen trail, just before it "ends" at the FS road, I ran into (almost literally) a hunter with rifle. We each spooked each other a bit. After saying our hellos, he mumbled "lots of hunters around here." This kinda freaked me out, as I wasn't wearing blaze orange! I decided to cut short the Larsen trail and make a beeline back towards the safer confines of the Funner area.

Is this related to this thread? Perhaps not. But I'm now paranoid of getting shot.

Definitely the spot where Larsen Trail ends is right near a well-established camp site that hunters use every year. Plus, that drainage is a known elk migration corridor. Blaze orange may look funny at the brew pub, but you'll be there alive.

While riding up lower Storm King yesterday, about 1 mile up from Conklin Road, a hunter was standing there next to the trail. I passed him without incident but it seems as if there would be too much bike traffic in that area for someone to want to hunt there. At least a half-dozen other riders were descending as I was climbing.

I have one of those road construction safety vests from when I was consulting for DOT's. Slips right on over anything and weighs hardly anything so no need to look funny at the brew pub!
