Death of the dirtbag mountain biker.

Study: Mtn. biking brings big bucks to Bend | News - Home

We tend to envision mountain bikers as young punks, but most visitors at these events were older people with disposable incomes, he said. Almost three-quarters of the participants had incomes of $100,000 or higher, with 30 percent of all visitors making more than $200,000.

    Young punks!

The dirtbags didn't die, they just got old.

Funny and maybe why I struggle some with the notion of doing the upcoming Enduro events as the race/event is set-up how and on terrain in which I prefer to ride my bike. But, when it comes down to it I just want to be out on the trails riding amidst the natural landscapes instead of paying $$ to do a ride, even though the Enduros can be fun events. Conflicted "AM" rider here.

The article was talking about 100 mile endurance events. I don't think anyone who completes one of those qualifies as pansy.

Same thing happened to the Harley Davidson (now the Harley Yuppie Davidson) motorcycle when Willie G "for greed" brought the company back into the family fold and along with Forbes turned the bike image and bike company into a Yuppie Plaything... upping the price, forcing dealers to expand their old small biker shops into Harley Boutiques, and so on, so forth...

Now we have Specialized Boutique shops popping up, mtb's that cost almost as much as a good old harley used to, and old(er) guys like me sitting on the can reading the latest issue of "We're The Tits!" bike rag demo'ing those high-priced playthings and associated accouterments!

I have disposable income to pony up for some fine crapola for sure... as long as I've forgotten about the unpaid bills hidden beneath the stacks of bulk mail I toss on the table. But underneath the facade... I'm in there with the dirtbags... you just gotta look beneath the lycra top, logo socks, latest bling-thingy on my newest bike...
