    Around Salem

    Howdy...

Heading to Salem for the weekend, was hoping to find some nice, techy singletrack nearby. I've been searching and reading a bit, and I was thinking Silver Falls may be where I head for a brief afternoon ride.

Any thoughts or other suggestions? I'm thinking within 30-45 minutes of town, XC/Enduro-ish singletrack, and worth dragging my bike down for a 3-4 hour ride. 15-20 miles maybe...

    Thanks in advance...

Silver falls, Dallas, Shelburg Falls, McDonald forest are all pretty close by. Dallas was the quickest for after work when I lived down there.

There's not much at Silver Falls. Catamount just opened, it's about an 7-8 mile out-and-back. South end of the park off the 214 trailhead, on the right as you head up 214 just after passing the viewpoint on the left. You still have to go in to the main area to pay to park out there. Otherwise it's mainly shared-use trails with gravel and lots of horses.

BRMBA will be doing shuttles all weekend. Check out their website...

Dallas? I had no idea there are trails there.

My brother lives in Monmouth and I'd be interested in checking out trails near Dallas when I go down to visit him.

Dallas isn't as popular as it used to be but there's still a decent amount of riding to be had there.

Dallas was my go to when I lived in Salem. Access is off Ellendale IIRC, and is basically a cross country network in the drainage to the north of Blackrock. The strava heatmap shows it still getting used. Basically pedal up logging road, come down trails.
