Any trails in the Newport area

    Hi,

I am an avid mtb rider from Wyoming and will be in Newport for a few days following Thanksgiving.

I'll be flying and as such will need to rent or demo a bike but wondering if there are any single track or other trails in the area?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Without driving an hour? No. Newport is a wasteland.

Having said that, it is nice for a road bike (if you're into that kind of thing). The Yaquina Bay route to Toledo and back; or the road along the Siletz Highway, are very nice.

I really enjoy Cummin's Creek, which is just south of Newport in Cape Perpetua.

Give the bike shop in Newport a call. There is some singletrack in the area that they ride. Nothing spectacular, but you can get a workout. Or, as mentioned above, drive down to Cape Perpetua. Cummins creek is a fun downhill.

Ollala Lake, up near Toledo (OR). You can find info on the trail on alltrails and Strava, I believe.

The other trail is on the south side of town, but it involves some strange situation where you have to get the name of some property management company from the bike shop, call the property management company, then sign some waiver, then they tell you where it is. Pain in the rear.

NO problem, just give us a report on where you ride. My FIL lives up in Gleneden Beach, which is far removed from any trails I know of. Sucks.

    Have fun.
