My kid's elementary school in Bend has a program that teaches the kids good traffic safety. What grade are you looking for?

University of Oregon has an avid cycling club/team, I would only assume that OSU and PSU would as well.

UO has an avid cycling team that is 100% focused on road bikes. Although some people around campus ride mountain bikes because of the close proximity of Oakridge, I have found it hard to meet others riders at the UO.

PSU has a cycling team as well, but I think it too is largely focused on road. Although the addition of CX racing might also be likely.

OSU, I have no idea about, but I can only assume they at least have a MTB club due to the proximity of the Mac/Dunn and Mary's Peak....

Re: Any schools in Oregon with good cycling programs?

OSU does have a cycling team, and there are a few members who mtb. I don't have an informed opinion on the strength if the team though. And the few I've spoken with who are MTB only racers have been a little dissatisfied by their numbers. I have heard their numbers have been growing though...you might be able to find out more by throwing a question up on their FB page.

You might also be able to get some anecdotal info on headcounts and "strength" by reviewing the team results pages at obra dot org.

For what it's worth, there are two different "OSU Mountain Biking" groups on Facebook but both appear to be borderline defunct (very low-traffic). I have seen a couple people in OSU cycling jerseys on mountain bikes in the forest in the past couple of weeks.

Just make a team happen! When I started to ride with the OSU team (2005) they had no MTB group ride and were mainly focused on the collegiate road racing. I started a weekly MTB group ride, did skills clinics, and raced for the club in non-collegiate ORBA events. At the time there were about 5 of the road racers that once in a while competed in XC MTB events, another 10 or so casual MTB riders and 2-3 DH riders. Don't know what the club is up to lately though as I left in 2009.
