Currently , is there a legal/practical way to access Mrazek as an out and back ride starting outside the burn closure area near Shevlin Park ?
Couple Mt St Hooligans are heading over from SW Washington and have traditionally enjoyed Mrazek starting at Shevlin, up to & then down Farewell , climbing North Fork to Happy Valley and back down Mrazek.
    Thanks for any Feedback !

Mrazek is open from Shevlin. Its not really a closure, just a short (1/8 mi.) re-route.
    Have fun.

Hi, needed to comment about which is the best map with all the fire roads marked. Adventure Maps actually does not mark all the fire roads since there are hundreds, the map focuses on the trails and a few key fire roads.
If you are wanting a map with all the fire roads, you will need to visit the Forest Service office to purchase one.

    Hello Benders
Several Mt St Hooligans from SW Washington heading over to Bend this weekend. Question----Is there currently a legal/practical detour at bottom of Mrazek bypassing recent fire closure ? We traditionally start at Shevlin and climb to Farewell then drop down and climb North Fork to Happy Valley .Our trip back normally heads back down to Mrazek and Shevlin start. Love that Mrazek downhill but do not want to violate closure.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance !

    Thanks Jing and Dry Side,
No closure or blockage-only short detour at bottom of Mrazek on 4609 to bypass burn section. If you are ever near Mt St Hooli feel free to pick our (small) brains for single track beta !

I have heard rumors of deep snow drifts still along MW between Happy Valley and Dutchman. Though since the High Cascades race goes that route this Saturday I have heard that the promoter was going to go out there this week to do the best he can at clearing but I would expect some snow hiking will still be necessary.
Moving to Bend? Let me help.

Sunday night there were still signs on the trail indicating a short section detoured to a gravel road, but coming back down there were people who had ridden through, and a log that had blocked the trail was moved out of the way. If it is officially open, it was hard to follow on the way back down. When it got into the torn-up section, I lost the trail and ended up on another dirt road I had to navigate back on. Luckily I had a little bit of a signal for google maps.

Even backtracking it was hard to tell where I lost it, and I live nearby and ride up and down that thing all the time. So if you're just coming down, following the detour might be safer.

I rode down Mrazek last evening and the detour signs were still in place. It was easy enough to follow the short detour.

Sorry to bump my Waldo question.... but I'll bump my Waldo question.

Has it been cleared? I can live with the skeeters. And I love camping there!

HC 100 racers told me there is still snow on M-W. Winner finished in about 7:30. Impressive 53 year old long time racer Tinker Juarez got third on the day.

Climbed Mrazek yesterday and this still holds true.

I rode up NF4601/NF370 to the Broken Top trail head. Decided to have a look at M-W all the way down to Happy Valley. Still several snow fields and lots of mud. Lots of areas where the HC 100 racers made big ruts. IMO they should not have sent the racers over M-W while there is was mud and snow on it. Mrazek in great shape.

That stretch from Broken Top TH to Happy Valley is my favorite section of trail in this entire area. Are there plans to fix the damage?

1st time visitor to the area, planning to ride Phil 's trails if conditions permit, from your experience, would the be rideable after tonight's thunderstorm?

Phil's trail should be in excellent shape after the rain. I also plan to ride in the AM.

Yes. Right after a rain is good. It packs down the dust.

As of 1230pm today, it was 43 degrees at Dutchman Sno-park. It felt great! I was coming back from a rain-abbreviated camping trip.

Haven't seen any postings on Cota(s) work log by T.West, recently, he's the guy who has cleared Met-Win from Dutchman to Happy Valley for the last many years.

Guess there are a couple trees on that section but won't be cleared until the snow is gone.
