I recently discovered Orbea bikes and I was lucky enough to demo the new Occam last weekend. I've always been curious about these bikes, I knew a guy that had one but they are impossible to find. I ride a Gary Fisher Wahoo now and I consider myself a solid intermediete rider, but this Occam allowed me to do so much more. After 4 hrs I was exhausted but I wanted to keep going. I'm hoping to get the aluminum version when they are available. I wish there was more info out there about these bikes.

All the Occam goodness you could want.....maybe.

Clicking this link will take you to Orbea's Youtube channel with all the Occam videos right there waiting to be watched. You can see everything from teaser videos to quality tests and some of our work with Fox to get the suspension tuned to perfection.

We are hoping to see the alloy models very soon, and the carbon models very near the beginning of 2012.

Call your dealer now to request the new Occam because our first shipment will not be very large.

A question to all ORBEA owners out there:
I was looking at the ORBEA.COM website and they don't show the OIZ anymore. Anyone know why? Has it been discontinued? Is does anyone know why? not enough sales or problems with the frame, or........? Maybe OrbeaFrank can shed some light on this, perhaps?
love the heck outta mine!! Thanks!

Hello, just kind of surprised no one has posted anything since last Nov. I've been given the OK by the doc to start ridding my OIZ again and while I was "down' added a RWC shock enduro bearing set. VERY smooth indeed, I really like it. I can't describe it other than "feels smoother". Anyone else done that with their bike?
Had a question for Orbea Frank. I noticed on the Orbea website that they don't show the Oiz anymore. I gather it has been discontinued/ Wondered why, please? Low sales, broken frames, no interest fro ridding, or...? Thanx! I sure love mine!!

    About Time

I didn't get to ride much during the winter. I'm just now getting to ride on a regular basis and I think that I finally have the suspension dialed in!!!! This Rallon rides like a dream!!!! Way to go Orbea

    Hello all,

Bought an Orbea Oiz a couple of years ago, and had no problems/worries with the BB/crank. Got a hip replacement revision in my rt hip and now when I ride, my leg "feels funny" (difficult to describe), but my rt knee goes "out" to the right. I had not paid attention until a few weeks ago that I replaced the BB bearings in the cups with Enduro bearings; that I have a 2.5mm spacer on the driveside bearing cup. I measured the BB it is 73mm, and I looked in the Truvative tech docs for the Giga X Pipe BB says that on a 73mm BB width uses NO spacers?????? I haven't taken it off or anything I just wondered if anyone else has seen similar/ or had to do similar because of chain line problems, or something?? Any info is greatly appreciated. THNX!!
Oh and yea I am using the same shoes/cleat position as I did before my operation.
I guess my question is does the OIZ need that spacer, or not?

well, the shifter do need some tuning after you ride it a couple of time esp if it new.
if u know to adjust the cable, a couple of turn to tighten up the cable will just do the trick. else the shop could just do it for u.

ORBEA OIZ with a NOIR crank question, please?

I had posted that my OIZ (has a 73mm BB), came with a Noir crankset and on SRAM website instructions for the Noir say NO spacers on the BB if it is a 73 mm BB. Mine came with one and just wondered if anyone elses' did also and if you didn't anything about it?? Thanks in advance!

Here we go! Finally took some pictures of my 2009 Orbea Alma 29er. Bought this frame used and built it last week. As it sits in the picture it weighs 20 pounds. Probably as light as its going to get without having to spend several hundred dollars upgrading parts.

Quick question guys, I have a 2012 Orbea Alma with the XT crankset which from Orbea comes with a FSA 24mm reducer.

I want to install an XX crankset and I'm not sure of the clearance. Do I need to buy any spacers/adapters for the XX crankset?

    Thanks,

    Damian-

Any Orbea Alma riders can answer my XX cransket question? I've also tried emailing Orbea but I haven't received a response yet. Thank you for any help you can provide.

If you are only about to buy new crankset I would suggest you to go with BB30 version (Q164). In that case you won't need any spacers. Just get rid of that FSA reducer and install new BB30 bearing set.

The 2012 Orbea Alma has been my only 29er hardtail so I don't have much experience with other bikes but I do tell you the following from experience. The Orbea handles a bit...mmmm rigid I guess you can call it, because of the way the shifter cables are setup in the front of the frame, the handle bar doesn't turn as free. I actually like this A LOT because I ride singletracks not trails, not lots of sharp turns, so the turns are smooooooth. I also recently found out that Orbea has a US shop in case you need to send your frame in, 2 weeks ago I hit the rear "guide" where the rear shifter cable goes and broke it off the frame, it uses really tiny rivets I didn't want to mess around with on a carbon frame. I would say the way the shifter cable in the back is setup is also a bad thing, compare to other brands that bring it through the inside of the rear tube, but it was mostly my fault, don't run into rocks. I LOVE the way the frame looks and how it fits, it feels aggresive and smooth. Over all I would buy this bike again and again, I don't like NINER because I know of 3 guys with broken frames, 2 of them have gone through 3 frames, under warranty of couse. I don't like Specialized because of the money and just because is an Specialized :P I do like the Santra Cruz. Did I say I like Orbeas?

New Orbea Alma Hydro build. X-post from 29er forum:

2012 Orbea Alma Hydro size small. Mix of new and used parts from my Jabber. Sram x9 9 spd shifter; Avid speed dial levers; Avid BB7 calipers; race face bar; oury grips; easton seatpost; jagwire cable and housing; race face evolve cranks; Manitou recon 100mm air fork; WTB SSL saddle; spd pedals. Sram x7 RD; shimano 12-36 cassette.

Initial ride impressions are very positive. Frame is very stiff without being "harsh". Coming off of the "long and low" jabberwocky, the geometry on this is night and day. I feel like I am actually piloting the bike, rather than riding a bucking bronco. I really like the shorter chainstays, as I don't feel like my rear end is swinging around and the bike moves effortlessly where I point it. I love how it carves. Climbs pretty well too. I may flip the stem, as it is a little higher than the saddle and I have to be sure to weight the front wheel to avoid wash out. Cockpit is much more comfortable than the Jabber. The low BB is the only "con" so far.

Can't wait to take it out for more field testing tomorrow. Big smile on my face while riding!

    Sweet paint job!

Side by side with the Jabber....The Jabber was just too long on both ends for me. I was too stretched.
