Do you mean top-pull or bottom-pull? My 2010 Inbred 29er is a top pull and I believe (shiggy correct me if I am wrong) that all of the generations are. Believe it a 28.6 shim and see if you can find one that has a "narrow" pull mechanism, I find the my M770 XT derailleur works great but is quite close to my 2.2" GEAX Saguaro (maybe 5mm) and mid area in the dropout.
Either should work.
Top swing (low clamp) may have more tire clearance than bottom swing (high clamp).
The frame does use bottom pull cable routing. All Shimano and most SRAM FDs are both top and bottom cable pull.
