Cracked On One Whippet frame replacement

    Hi,

My carbon fibre on one whippet frame has developed a terminal crack after just two years of moderate use. It was the best bike I've ever had (aside from build quality!) and I would like to get something similar.
Is there a frame with same geometry? Don't want to touch an On One carbon fibre frame again but would consider an aluminium one. Is the Scandal the aluminium equivalent (weight, BB and seat post differences aside)? Any suggestions?

First post so please be gentle!

Sorry to hear about your Whippet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that mine does not suffer the same fate. A Scandal is the closest thing to a Whippet from on One, the geometry charts look identical.

By the way, where is the crack. I'd like to check mine to make sure its okay.

If you like the Whippet buy another. There are only a handfull of places that make carbon bike frames. If you buy another brands carbon frame you will have the same chances of a crack.

Hmmm, not so sure about that. My friend has an Orbea carbon fibre bike which he has had for 4 years without issue. The frame has a life time warranty.

I guess you get what you pay for and the On One carbon frames are cheap.

I think will buy the Scandal as it's cheap and the same geometry.

    Thanks for the advice.

I really think you just had bad luck. Price point doesn't mean quality. Just look at all the US made high $ Trek Madone frames that failed.

If you want a scandal get your hands on one soon. I think there out of most sizes .

ranking, I agree with CCB. You are just one person with a Whippet that broke, I have not heard of others. Take a look at the Santa Cruz forums, there are plenty of threads about broken SC. All brands have bikes that break, I think On-One is a brand that leans more towards durability rather than World Cup winning performance. If you can get another Whippet, take it! It will be fine...

Try On One for a warranty replacement or a crash replacement.
If not, try to get the frame repaired.
    I guess it'll cost you $150 - $200.

Or wait a bit, and get the 456c evo: should be a bit more stout & still lightweight.

BTW: I've thrashed my whippet & nary a complaint. I agree with the others; you just had some bad luck unfortunately. I wouldn't let that cloud your perception of the bike or the brand.

Call the on one store in Oregon, my whippet developed a crack in the seat post collar last fall and they were awesome about replacing it for free.

If you decide to go with the Scandal you won't be disappointed. Although according to On*One the Lurcher is the carbon equivalent to the Scandal. I plan on picking up one of them later in the year.
