    2.3" tire on 29er inbred

as per title, I am looking to fit some mtb tires to my inbred.
now, any suggestions what I could buy? 2.3 or even 2.4 as I am looking for some "plush".

    thank you

I have run 2.4 Continental Mountain Kings in mine, but needed to be pulled back a tad in the horizontal dropouts to clear the FD. I now run 2.2 X-Kings all the way up front

mmm I see. I run singlespeed, so I rather avoid having limitations with the dropouts movements....

    thank you!

the limitation is only with respect to the FD.... I used the 2.4" as singlespeed without issues.

The issue was only when I added gears afterwards

The Smorgasbord 2.25 is a high volume casing. Lots of cush.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

one more thing concerning Smorgasbords, would they work tubeless on ztr crests? (with tape and liquid, of course)

I've used the Rampage 2.35 without problems.
    After modification of the FD...
With singlespeed there is no problem used all sorts of rear tires.
Mud clearance could be better though.

Don't see why there would be a problem making the Smorgasbords tubeless. Only Conti Supersonics are a pita.

Cris -- what pressure were you running with Conty 2.4 ? Did you have it set up tubeless ?

I really want to try Conty X King 2.4 Protection....this is what I am trying to accomplish=
    -Low rolling resistance
    -big volume
    -good traction
    -tubeless

    ...any suggestions?

I run the 2.2 X-King tubeless at around 28psi, The 2.4 MK I had before was with a tube at a similar pressure

    2.3" tire on 29er inbred

Geax Gato 2.3 and Saguaro 2.25 -- both great volume. Gato has great traction; Saguaro is lower profile. Running both with Stan's liquid.

Also, love the On One Chunky Monkey 2.4 and Smorgasbord 2.25. Have only run them with tubes though, and have only run the CM on the front. (The CM is great volume and great traction!)

Bumpin' for answers. Crisillo, is yours the slot-drop frame or swap out frame? If slot, hoping you can measure rear axle to spindle / CS length with the wheel all the way forward.

    Thanks for any info.

It's the slot frame. I'll try to remember to measure it when I get home.

    I haven't seen a 29er tire too wide...

I'm currently running Schwalbe Racing Ralph 2.35" (formerly 2.4") on Velocity Blunt 35s (formerly P35) as a single speed. No issues at all with clearance. I'm thinking there's still room in there for the next wider tire - whatever that is.

    2.3" tire on 29er inbred

I have the Chunky Monkey 2.4 on the rear of my Scandal now, and there is plenty of clearance. Dimensions look similar to the 29er Inbred (frame geometry is the same), and I think this tire would fit fine on the Inbred as well.

The Chunky Monkey and Smorgasbord tires are great -- very rubbery, grippy, high volume.

    2.3" tire on 29er inbred

Ardent 2.25 on a Stans Flow running tubeless. This is after a season of riding. These tires always swell to larger than the original volume.
Singlespeed with slot dropouts almost slammed give or take a few mm.

I tried a 2.4 Ardent and did not feel comfortable with the clearance.

I must thank everyone that answered to my question.
I now use a 2.25 smorgasbord F/R and to be honest, I think it's the maximum, really.

Makes me think that the Scandal has a different clearance in the rear triangle.

Good news is that I was absolutely blown away by those tyres. they are really good!

A couple of friends just put Racing Ralph 2.35 on the rear of the SS only Inbred frame and they clear with just barely a little room left...I'm gonna try it soon myself on a swap out frame.
