Would you consider golfing an X-Treme sport.

Personally, I think Xtreme sports should be banned. Too may daredevils dying during competition. That does not deliver a positive message.

Extreme sports are only extreme to those who do not participate. Once it becomes "extreme" to the do-er, that's when it gets real. This is when you (as an individual) decide "this is effing nutts!!"I hit that mark when I hit the upper level of Class 4 whitewater, or that 30ft gap... Risk outweighs reward.. That's when I'm out.

    As for the link... WTF????

Definitely not extreme, it's not like they're doing a Tarzan swing over the shark pond to play the course.

Oh yeah it really is groundbreaking history in the making. The scientists have already sub contracted Titlest and Spalding to step up golf ball production. They fear that altering his diet could put MEGABEAST in shock and jeopardize this whole operation.

    One thread ^ this one.

I was watching The Outdoor Channel and this new sport came on. Where better to share it than here? If it were a new bicycle sport it would have went in the long dead bike thread.

    Some more excitement.

I have always thought that golf gives you all these wicked clubs, and then you don't get to play any dee-fense.

My other thought was that counting shots is passe. Why not play each hole for speed and not count the shots?

The guy who launched the largest cliff jump on skis?

It's legit, he was on the Outdoor Channel last night. One cliff jump after another, all extreme. No one else does what he does. He forward flips and is in control in the air the whole time.

Not all BASE jumps are hand held. It appears that he had a pilot chute snivel on him for some reason. Hand held may or may not have made a difference. The flip probably ate up too much of his altitude.

I thought I read somewhere that he lived.

All the folks in the comment section say he lived, so there must be a story out there on this event.

If only there was some way to find out, some kind of machine, where you could type in questions and it'd find the answers for you.

Wouldn't it make sense that a hand thrown chute would open up quicker? If I ever BASE jump I'm throwing it.

Sometimes it's not the sport itself that's extreme, and extreme doesn't always mean huge, gnarly stunts.

Yep, nothing he does is all that dangerous, but it's all very, very, very difficult.

All pilot chutes are hand thrown, it's just a matter of if it's hand held at launch or in the pouch. In this case their appears to have been some kind of malfunction with the pilot chute. It had plenty of time to deploy the main canopy but did not. I'm not sure if BASE pilot chutes need to be cocked but it appears his was not and did not inflate and pull the main out of the rig.

That doesn't make sense to me. How can all chutes be hand thrown if some come from a pouch? Pulling a cord and the chute deploys out of the pouch is not hand thrown. Holding a chute in your hand and then throwing it makes more sense as a hand thrown chute. What am I missing here?

This guy pulled off a world record speed run on a long board. He did it on a road just a few miles from me.

Soft wheels let the pebble dent into the wheel, and the wheel rolls right over it.

    Sweet! ^

I think I'd be testing it out in the wide open outdoors though. Less steel is real.

My X's son has a Hayabusa. Scary fast, I wonder how fast that ski will go. The bike does 200MPH.

BASE and just about all Skydiving rigs do not use 'rip cords' to deploy the main canopy (they are used on the reserve canopy on skydiving rigs. BASE rigs do not have a reserve canopy). The Pilot Chute is stuffed into a pouch on the bottom of the rig with a pud on the end. The Pilot Chute is pulled from the pouch and tossed into the airflow and pulls the closing pin and extract the main canopy. On lower BASE jumps it's common practice to hold the pilot chute as you leave the exit point so you don't waste the time to pull it out of the pouch.

I'll excuse the 7 month delay in your response. You have no idea how much sleep I've lost.

It all makes more sense now. I thought all BASE jumps were hand thrown.
