Would I have a problem with new apps with a 2nd or3rd gen ipod touch?

My iPod Classic just took a poop. I'm looking at used 2nd/3rd gen iPod Touch.
My only concern is, will it be applicable or problematic with todays version of iTunes?

Maybe someone with one of the above can let me know?

it depends on the app. Some will work some won't. You will have to go through them to find out if the ones you want will work. But you might be able to upgrade to the new os as long as it has enough memory.

I had a 2nd gen iPod Touch. The headphone jack eventually wore out -- I would only get audio into one headphone/earbud, but the earbuds worked fine with any other device. It still played music, but I couldn't find any apps that would work with it. Additionally, I updated it using iTunes and I think it only went up to iOS 4 or so. That was a few weeks ago. So I bought a refurbished 5th gen iPod Touch online. ~$240, if I remember correctly. A 4th gen would be cheaper and Apple will probably offer updates for that for a while yet.

My 5th gen is at iOS 6.1.3 now, that's the newest update, FWIW. The nice thing about the 5th gen (not sure about the 4th gen for this) is that as long as I have Wifi, I can do anything with it that an iPhone can do.
I've made some bad decisions like taking the gears off my bike. So here's the warning: Do not as I say, nor as I do.

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll be looking for a 5 gen instead.
