    Worst song of all time.

As if the worst song of all time could ever be known, but someone in another thread quoted what I consider to be the second worst song of all time: We Didn't Start the Fire, by B. Joel.

If I had to chose a number one, it would be: We Built this City by Starship.

I haven't played the worst song of all time game in years. The only groundwork I'll lay out is that the song must be a recognized radio hit. And that anyone who wants to play along must come up with a worse song than the two I've already mentioned.

anything by Nikki Minaj, if you want to call it music. Or Beiber. Both together is like one of the signs of the coming of the apocalypse.

and from the above era: kokomo by the Beach Boys. Sad.
    Try this: HTFU

To be fair, you probably thought the apocalypse was upon us when Kokomo came out.

Funny thing about N. Minaj, I'm not even sure if I've ever heard a song of hers. I'm sure I must have when in public or flipping through the radio dial, but I can't be sure. I'm old, I guess. And with the way times have changed, radio music matters so little anymore. Since there is a new Bieber every 5 years, he doesn't offend me so much.

I kind of like the Wang Chung song, even though it's awful. The Right Said Fred song is certainly in the mix. I can almost forgive one-hit wonders though.

Monogod, leave some of the bad ones for other posters.

Mattcz, Rush may be a good candidate for most overrated band of all time. But Tom Sawyer is leaps and bounds better than St. Elmo's Fire.

The problem with The Joker, girlonbike, is that it's kinda fun to sing. The same can't be said for We Didn't Start the Fire or We Built this City. But, yes, it's a bad song.

hardly. not liking their music is one thing, but they are phenomenal musicians. and a great number of their songs, and even a few albums, are epic and based on great literature, mythology, and lore. intellectual hard rock, as it were. they are easily on par with todd rundgren's utopia.

Sugar Sugar by The Archies. Most of you are too young to have heard this, and you are fortunate for that. This song got tremendous amounts of radio time when it came out. Gag.

I'll take your Archies and raise you one Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep:

Middle of the Road - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep - Totp 1971 - YouTube

That summer I was in the mountains in N Iran for a couple of months, cut off from any media, and I missed any good music. When we came out of the hills after the period, we stopped at a gas station somewhere in Turkey, and this song was on the radio blaring from the workshop. I thought the world had been taken over by aliens in my absence... from Zep to this!

OP nailed some great (horrible) ones right from the get go. Here are the 1st 3 that popped into my head-

    1) Styx- Mr. Roboto

    2) Aldo Nova- Fantasy

    3) Alanis Morissette- Ironic

Honorable mention- Any hit song by any 80's hair band.

Anything from ICP. I'd rather stick my male parts in a crank in use than listen to any of their crap.

That friggin Journey song that every college kid in the country was singing for a couple months there.

And I agree, anything from Nicki Minaj (sp?) or Beiber. The both make me want to put hot needles in my eardrums.

So many to choose from. . . .

Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks (#2 song of 1974)

Alone Again Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan (nominated for two Grammy's)

Girl You Know it's True - Milli Vanilli (won a Grammy)

Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin (Grammy Winner)

    MMM-Bop - Hanson

Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners

Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles - (#1 song of that year)

Muskrat Love - Captain and Tenille - (#1 song of that year)

Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary MacGregor (reached #1)

    Delta Dawn - Helen Reddy

That ought to be enough to induce some wretching. . . .

EWWww. It's getting truly awful in here, but try to remember all, my ground rules are that the songs must be considered some kind of radio hit. There's a couple in here I've never even heard of, though I will watch the links with joy/pain.

Speaking of Celine Dion, that stupid Titanic song may not be the worst of all time, but it makes me want to go looking for Titanic survivors so I can finish the deal.

Part of my philosophy on worst song of all time is that the song/songwriter has to take him/her/themselves seriously. They have to think the wrote a really deep, moving song. Some of the awful songs in here are camp. The artist had no illusions about the song. You know Starship thought that song was pretty deep when they wrote it. The Billy Joel song is just as guilty.
