Ha,ha Rod theres no stopping a cat from getting through an electric fence if he wanted to. Besides bobcats are harmless to humans they're just out looking for any small prey. And its amazing to me how healthy this one looks. Apparently dining on the huge rabbit population in the area. And the occasional house cat or chihuahua.

I was riding downhill today and my damn rear brake is squealing. As I'm rounding a corner I hear a loud gobble gobble that sounded a lot like my brakes. My brakes worked as a Turkey call!
I got off my bike and started walking through the woods. It took a while but I finally ran in to 2 big beautiful Turkeys. Unfortunately didn't get a picture of them both together, and only had my cell phone.

Caution these were not taken while riding my bike..

I just took these photos about 10 minutes ago while driving home from work. 4 Big Bull Elk laying in the shade in the middle of town in the 95 degree heat. They were just 30' off the road with numerous cars stopping and taking pictures.

Here's the background on these big bull elk. There was a group of 7 big bulls that hung together in a bachelor herd. All large 6 pointers. Every year they would come into town and hang together for a couple months in the summer. They got the nickname the Magnificent 7. Last year one got killed by a car so the number dropped to 6. There are 4 in this herd so I'm thinking 2 didn't make it through the rough winter and the past hunting season. They are in full velvet and the antlers are only half done growing for the season. By the end of summer their antlered will be twice as large and without velvet. The one photo of the one looking directly at the camera is the Big Boy. He's going to be and probably will be a 7 pointer this year. In the elk world 6 pointers are huge but 7 & 8 are rare and usually become record holders.

I wasn't out riding but these were seen shortly after my ride if that counts.

Some Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. All female Ewes and some just born babies. Unfortunately no big male Rams. I saw them yesterday on my way down the Big Thompson Canyon Colorado.

Here's some more Big Horns I saw 2 weeks ago. The big ram came right up to within 3' of my driver door. He put his head down like he was going to ram my truck but then turned and walked off the road luckily.

That's awesome man! You were lucky he popped up running away from you instead of toward you! But every time I've run across a bear, they did the same thing - run away.
He looks like he was fast too!

Lucky your camera was on. How much of the time can you keep it on?

I've never heard about the riding in that part of CO. Recommended?

I was probably running 18-20mph when he/she popped up - this was part of a 3000ft descent over about 7 miles - so I was running the camera as I tend to only switch it on when I ride somewhere new and i'm running downhill - no one wants to watch me plod up a hill at 3 mph

For the riding I would not necessarily make it a riding destination but if you are in the area I think you can get some cool rides in (especially if you include Pagosa Springs). The trails are wild and very backcounty-ish and most/all hiking trails allow bikes (if not in wilderness). Lots of ATV trails as well. There may me many hidden gems out there but I think it could take a lot of time to find them. One negative is that a lot of the trails proceed into wilderness as the area is bordered by several and that makes loops tricky. Many rides I think would be out and backs - or loops involving forest roads like the one I did.

I wish I had a camera at the time, but this happened before every cell phone had a camera and mine didn't...

I was riding Oat Hill Mine rd. right outside of Calistoga in '09. I was on my Santa Cruz and making pretty good time, when I got into a somewhat technical section and hit my right heel on a rock. The impact popped my foot out of my pedal and I lost my rythm. I took that opportunity to grab a drink from my bottle and catch my breath for a minute.

As my breathing settled, I heard this rattling noise which sounded like the purr of a house cat, but very rough and rattly and pretty loud. I looked over my left shoulder and behind a bush about 20 feet away was a rather large Mountain Lion. Apparently she (?) was content form the feast on the last mountain biker, as she just looked at me. Not so calmly, I got my bike between the cat and myself and picked it up and shook it. Well, with deraillers, chains, cables and all making noise, she decided to leave. She went down the hill and into a ravine, I was Lance Armstrong for the next 1/2 mile or so.

The problem was that I was riding Oat Hill as an out and back and had to come back by that spot about a half hour later. As I approached that area, I took stock of myself and hauled ass!

Even if you had a camera I doubt you would've been thinking "Perhaps I should snap a quick photo".

I have never encountered a large cat, but have had a few 'closer than I would like' bear encounters. Most often they are far enough away. But, in the few close encounters, my last thought was: "What a great photo-op?"

Been riding a new to me trail and have discovered my new favorite reptile, the ring-necked lizard. I thought there were two different varieties until Hawg informed me that the pale ones are female and the more vibrantly colored green ones are male. They're quite lively and like to stop to look back and check you out.

This female ran ahead of me on the trail for a couple hundred feet, lol!

The males are bright green/blue with a yellow chest, super cool looking, especially on the rust colored rocks found elsewhere on the trail.

Caught this little box turtle right in the middle of lunch at my local trail.

Cornfield very cool sightings. Love the reptiles. ^^^

This morning drive to work I had a slight delay. A big old bull elk decided he wanted to cross the road just as I was passing him. I pulled over to avoid a collision because you never know if they're going to bolt out in front of you. Anyway my photo taking was a bit off because I missed taking a picture as he "loped" over the barbwire fence on the other side. Yes he walked up to the fence and just loped his giant self over.

Magpie swooping season has just started here, I went for hundy today and got hit dozens of times by at least 20 maggies over the whole route. Had enough of dodging them so grabbed a selfie with this bugger... landed on my back 3 times while I was trying to get a pic.

I regularly see this troupe if I ride close to sunset at the local nature park.

Things i have almost ran over while at Sac...deer both adults and fawns, Missouri and ornate box turtles, 2 big black snakes one small green snake (that poor guy i did run over), and now I get to add a armadillo who after the initial shock of "oh god that guy almost ran me over" went back to foraging and was so focused on that that I got close enough to reach out and pick him up by the tail if i wanted to, and the best first time ever thing for me to see in the wild.....bobcat...about the length of my truck distance wise from me. If I had been going my normal speed on that part of the trail i dang near may have hit him. He ran a few feet then had to stop and turn to look at me I'm guessing to try to figure out what the hell that thing was. Watched each other for a few and he walked off. Gone by the time I got around the bend to the clearing for a good look. And of course the battery on my phone died before i got to the trails so no pics.

I need a dang action cam for when I am riding. Any suggestions on a decent cheap one?

New Zealand Fur seal pup at the Murray Mouth in South Australia.

There is a big colony of them on Kangaroo Island about 30km away... they have reduced the Little Penguin population from approx 4000 down to several hundred.
