Was solo riding a trial by my house, runs along a creek. I crested this little berm to look into the creek, it is a sweet little spot, walking up the creek was a buck. We looked at each other man to man, and carried on.

It's not a bear it is a koala. There is no such thing as a koala bear, two completely different species. From todays ride, this little guy didn't flinch as we rode past then came back for about 5 pics as close as 3ft away from him. "If I don't move, no one will see me!"

I'm down with all types of lizards, tho, even the monster ones from Down Under.

    Owl -- Harbins Park, GA

Was riding along and this guy flew overhead. I thought it was a hawk, but they don't fly under the canopy that I have ever seen. He landed in a tree along the trail, about 15' up and 15' away. It is the closest I have ever been to one. It was about 5:45 PM, still nowhere near dusk.

He waited until I got out my cell phone, took s few shots, admired him a minute, then he flew away from the trail to a tree further back in.

I wish I had a real camera on me.

Can anyone identify him? He is about the size of a laying hen.

    Thanks.

Lots of owls in North Van but only at night have I seen and more often heard them. Bears or common and coyotes all the time. Skunks a little less common thankfully. A weasel once and last fall I saw a wolverine coming down a green belt I was riding up.

That is a barred owl. I've been playing with a couple that are around my house. Their call is "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all?"
On a side note I love Harbins, thats where we used to go 4 wheeling and motox riding and drinking when we were kids! Lots of good times were had at "FLAT ROCK" aka harbins now.

During June just past, I rode along Australia's Bicentennial National Trail, from Canberra, riding North to the Southern Blue Mountains. The trail was mostly along rural back roads, in this section of the BNT. In riding time, I spent only 19 hours in the saddle but in real time, because of repeated floodings of the low-level crossings, it took me 28 days to do what should have been only a three or four day ride.

Some shots of the wildlife found on the route ... taken when it wasn't raining.

A mob at the edge of Mares Forest National Park.

"Duck!" "I'm not a Duck I'm a Crimson Rosella." "No bird, duck, incoming!"

    Pigeon-toed Magpie, Taralga.

Rosellas taking flight in Goodhews Lane, Taralga.

Two fine hounds on the Banaby Range, on a high plateau of the Great Dividing Range.

A runaway Suffolk Sheep impersonating a Mussellbrook Shire coal miner.

An attack by two rainy day Plovers.

Tigers battling the Golden Fleeces, Taralga.

    Warren.

Thanks for the info on the bird!

I'm in Barrow County but Harbins is the closest trail to my house. We've lived here going on 20 years, and my son's school friends tells us about the Jeep trails there back in the day. I've wondered around in that back area across the creek. Lots of logging roads with huge ruts, and getting deeper by the year. Providence Canyon II....

Just about 2 miles down the road from Harbins is Tribble Mill, and off 81 there is Ft. Yargo. Both should be within 20 minutes of you.

Goose Pond State Park (NY). Exploring unfamiliar, unmarked trails covered in leaves. I'm just trying to follow what appear to be quad tracks. Twisting and turning, I find myself coming out by this building. I think I see a horse...no its a zebra. A very still zebra...with a friend.

That's what I thought until I moved from So. Cal. back to Colorado. My brother from San Diego was visiting me and we saw 3 coyotes in Estes Park Co. They were at a distance so we put some binoculars on them. He see's coyotes all the time in So. Cal. as well as me when I lived there. His first reaction before the binoculars was "those are wolves". No they're coyotes but much healthier looking than the mangy So. Cal. variety. Although I must say the one in the above photo is a healthy looking specimen for So. Cal.

Not really "on the trail" but it was mid-ride. The middle bit being work, was doing an inspection at the cooling water intake and this Bottlenose Dolphin came over for sticky beak.

They usually have a good deal more body fat on them when they live near suburbs. Plus, this time of year, they all start to get thicker pelts in preparation for winter.

I think moose are cool and I haven't seen one in a long time. I drive all over CO, UT, WY for my job, but haven't seen one in about 4 years since I was in a remote part of Wyoming along the Green river.
So it was quite a surprise to see this handsome young fella right near my house. If you are familiar with the Denver area, he was not even close to wilderness, he was grazing right off the exit ramp 174 of I-25 and Tomah Road, a few miles south of Castle Rock.
