Wow! I'm glad I only come across garter snakes and blue racers on our trails. We have Massasauga rattle snakes around the area, but they're scarce and generally pretty sluggish.

Actually, they were quite tame and curious.

Still, I backtracked and went around another way. I wasn't about to try and squeeze past five horses on a wooded section of single track with a bicycle...

Two critters I encountered last week at Fruita.

A bird that I do not knowwhat the species is. It made a wierd sound.

While riding Horsethief Bench with a few college riders, one of them popped a tire and when we were about to restart, this lizard came crawling out on a rock..then did this strange head-bobbing at me and let me take a picture.

The bird is a Chuker which is a popular bird in the Partridge bird family with hunters. The lizard is a Side-Blotched Lizard, a male.

We've been seeing lots of adult Mantis's her at our complex also. We have a regenerating population that starts again every Spring. This is just about the coolest insect in the world. I love how they turn their head to look directly at you. I handled a medium sized female a few days ago, taking her out of the walk way and placing her back in the planted area. Too cool!

That mule deer is so cute! Last weekend I thought I had a stick tangled up in my wheels. My buddy was behind me, he said "it's still there". It was a black snake, got thrown up to where it was wrapped up around my waist. Luckily it got loose and slithered away. All I could think was, good thing that didn't happen to my wife.

On a road ride (I know, I know...) in central Florida and found this. Correct me if I am wrong but I think it is a Burmese Python. Certainly not native!

While researching it I found this article (Biggest Burmese Python Found in Florida). This was a long way from the everglades, scary.

It's a Ball Python. If you ever see any Phythons roaming around down your way, kill on sight or capture, or call police or animal control. These CANNOT be allowed to populate the USA.

I guess the only "wildlife" i get to see is usually one or more dogs barking at me in all kinds of roads... Probably not all dogs like me... I haven't made up my mind though, its either this or they are really hungry... Either way, Great pics guys, i hope i will see something extraordinary and peaceful some day out there

Was riding out at Smithville Lake last Sunday when I turned a corner and flubbed up on a root and had to hop off my bike -- looked 10 feet ahead and this guy witnessed the whole noob moment..

If a snake could laugh and mock, I am sure he was doing both watching me flub up on a root that I easily do all the time. LOL.

I didnt get a chance to take a pic cause they ran as I skidded to a stop, but last ride me and my brother were on a wooded trail, pretty narrow singletrack cause of brush and trees when I almost got a face full of deer ass as I come around a corner at speed. 2 Doe standing in the trail, at least they were traveling the right direction. Being its THAT time of year, we didnt hang around cause damn well know there is a buck close by and MTBs dont protect well against one thats horny and ready to fight.

Hard to see because all I had was my zoomless cell phone, but there really is a bird of some sort (ruffed grouse?) in the middle of the picture. Blends in very well with all the downed leaves.

There's a trail near me where I almost always scare off a few deer or squirrels, but sadly they don't allow biking on it.

When he took off the ground from under my front wheel, I thought it was a turkey. Then he landed on that tree ten feet from me, watching me anxiously but not really scared. Those big birds are magnificent creatures.

    They won't populate the USA.
For that matter, it is highly unlikely they will make it outside of Florida.
They for the most part are only found in the Everglades and there are laws to follow for removing them.

    Python Permit Program

Honestly, other then keeping control of the population, they are here to stay.

Not an albino, just a white Raven (albinos have messed up eyes). they are really really rare, especial to have that many together.

There were at least 5 last year. I've only ever seen 2 at a time.
