Thats Uluru (Ayres rock) in the centre of Australia. It deceiving because its 348m high and 9.5km around, its a big old lump of rock

Im the idiot standing on the pillar, #1 son just below and #2 son took the photo. The rock formation in the background is the Olgas.... another awesome place.

What's up with all the renaming of sites to some aboriginal names and prohibiting to climb and stuff. Are there really that many aboriginals to please with their rituals and stuff?

sounds like its heading to some of the conflicts we have over Reservations, historic sites\holy sites etc. Wishing you all good luck with that!!!! In AZ right now there is a conflict over a new casino smack dab in the middle of Phoenix cause the parcel was bought by one of the Tribes and made 'reservation'. There is another conflict over snowmaking in Flagstaff because it would use reclaimed water and that local tribe feels the mountain is sacred. Meanwhile the tribe that runs 'the other' ski resort in the state supports one cause and opposes the other -- all purely for financial reasons. Total mess when history\religion get mixed up with money and politics and monopolies.

just read the wikipedia article. very cool formation, and good article.

Uluru - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nothing at all like Sedona (other than being, you know, old and eroded).

Google says Mount Augustus is twice bigger.

I would still take El Capitan over them. Granite FTW.
