    "Where's The Exit?

Don't get me wrong I love most all motor sports as well as NASCAR. But sometimes I wonder if the NASCAR drivers are confused where the exit is.

My first was a '69 Bug and it has a bus engine. A friend owned a Volk repair shop and did a rebuild for me, then a paint job.
I loved that old car. Memories.
Later got a '70 bus. What a blast! take out the middle seat and all your stuff and a bed goes in there. Those were the days.
    I'm afraid of heights so a 26'r fits me to a T.

Oh yeah those were the day's. My buddy had a VW bus back in the day. Not the best vehicle for cold winter day's. As you know the heater / defroster works off the air cooled engine. Needless to say not a heater or defroster at all, In an empty shell of a bus we froze our asses off in the Colorado winters.

I had a 1969' VW Ba Ja bug back in the day. An awesome fun car especially in the snow. But it too suffered from the same defroster / heater problem. It ended up being it's demise. I was 17 at the time and came out of work at midnight. Out to a major snow storm, I couldn't get the windshield to defrost. But being a young foolish male I drove off anyways. Basically driving by braille blindly, all I had was a silver dollar size area of clear windshield to look through. Off in to the white out conditions I drove. I barely got out of the parking lot when all of a sudden "BAM" I slammed it up on to a concrete island and high centered the car. I threw it in reverse to try to free it before a cop saw me. That lasted about 30 seconds when all of a sudden my car lit up with red and blue lights. A cop was following me and saw the whole thing.

Damn he gave me a careless driving ticket and had my disabled car towed. I had it towed to a VW shop. Where upon inspection it had a broken axle and suspension and under belly damage. Well being a young poor teenager I couldn't afford to have it repaired. So the owner of the shop offered to buy it from me. Which I did and I'm sure was basically ripped off. That Ba Ja bug was my pride and joy at that age. And it was the nicest Ba Ja bug around. The hardest part was he ended up parting it out and selling off the parts. For the next several years I would see several Ba Ja bugs running around town with parts off of my old bug.

Yup--the heaters weren't all that hot. SOmehow, I made due in NH winters, but toward the end of its life the floors would flood coming through the heater ducts and then freeze.
    That was chilly!

Bugs are great cars. Simple dependable and easy to work on. I had one for a short time. Wish I still had it.

Where's the exit? Why, it's just down the road past the last stop sign.
