    What the fugs going on in DETROIT ? Poor Les Gold, He's carrying Detroit...

    Ive got a spare few hundred bucks, i was thinking about buying a unit in Detroit, will i be able to rent it out and is it a good investment?

    What the fugs going on in Detroit, why has it gone broke? how can a huge US city become bankrupt.

    Is American jewellery and loan (pawnstars) the only store open in the whole of Detroit, poor owner Les, i love Les Gold, i love his slicked back mullet and bling, but i hate his two kids Ashley and Seth, you couldnt breed two worse kids even if they bred with each other.

    Has anybody been to the shop or met the legend Les, is this man carrying Detroit on his shoulders?

    So why cant the US government bail Detroit out of trouble?

    And wasnt it a huge Auto manufacturing city?

    Does anybody have any Detroit stories, for some reason i feel connected to Detroit, must be my love for Les..

    P.S Les has a new book thats just come out, 'FOR WHAT ITS WORTH' By LES GOLD, im getting a signed copy, its about how to create wealth and all about the pawn shop industry, Its already a NY times best seller.
    Is anybody with me?

    This explains what happened in Detroit. If you were to buy one of those "cheap" houses, you'd take on so much liability it would be a huge hassle.
    Additionally, I think you mean the pawn industry.

    The only reason Seth made it so big was because his business preys on the desperate down on their luck populous. Which Detroit has a huge percent of. Sad but that's what people that are down and out do. They pawn everything they have for money to survive or to feed their drug addiction.

    Detroit is a dying 'merican city. It will be a modern day ghost town before the end of our natural lives. Sadly, others may be in line to follow...

    Actually Detroit is pretty much a ghost town already. They're trying to get funding to tear down the vacant buildings that make up about half the city right now. I believe several smaller cities have also petitioned for bankruptcy as well.

    Well......if more Australians would have bought American cars, perhaps it would be in better shape. But, nowadays, you can't even get Americans to buy American cars. I have a friend who buys only Japanese or German. He says US cars are crap. We've dropped so far from when we were the manufacturing giant about a century ago.

    I grew up in Warren, suburb of the D, and as someone said, bad mayors, unions
    and foundering auto industry is what did Detroit in.
    I still love Michigan and the Detroit area, and wish it and the people who
    give a crap about the city luck that it will come back.

    Detroit has the area of NYC, Boston and San Francisco combined. It's down to 700k people from 1.7M. One million less people to maintain things means a lot of that area is in bad shape.

    Sorry bigfruits, American jewellery and loan is a real shop, Les is a real person, so are his kids, seth actually won the 2013 best pawnbroker award, yes les has written a book.
    Yes they stage plenty of stuff, but the store was there 20 years before the show, its a real store, its even on ebay selling things.
    There are thousands of customer reviews on the net, you can go to the store thats on the show and book in to meet les.

    Its not fictional, but i admit plenty is staged on the show.

    The US government bailed out all of the big auto manufacturers other than Ford. All it did was delay the inevitable : /

    gotcha. all i saw was one episode and it was completely fake so all i know of the great Les are his acting skills. for that reason i'd take his book with a grain of salt.

    he does have great hair though.

    In all seriousness, Les made himself a very rich man through the pawn business, he was doing that for 30 years before the TV ever found him, les is a mover n shaker, no doubt at the expence of down and out people, but much like a bookie or a drug dealer, he has made himself into a self made man, the guys a smart, his book is now a number 1 best seller, i just think it would be an interesting read.

    Theres no doubt that plenty of the show is staged for TV, thats how they do it these days.

    Detroit is a harbinger. Or at least a clue.
    Unfortunately most are asleep or uneducated about the things that count as citizens of a representative republic.

    Your friend is full of crap - not US made cars...

    Made is USA with USA Labor

    Passat -> Chattanooga, Tennessee
    Camry -> Georgetown, Kentucky
    Altima -> Smyrna, Tennessee
    Outlander Sport -> Normal, Illinois
    Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is built in Vance, Alabama
    Infiniti in Tennessee
    Hyundai Sonata is built in Montgomery, Alabama
    Accords in Marysville, Ohio
    BMW X3 in Spartanburg, South Carolina
    Honda Civic in Greensburg, Indiana
    Should I go on………….

    BTW - I have two made in USA Dodges with a lot miles on them and no troubles other than normal wear parts -> water pump, rubber belt, etc.

    BTW 2 - The current bozos in running the show are anti manufacturing. I know because I own a manufacturing company which has produced Made in USA product for over 25 yrs. It is getting harder and harder every year. The regulatory requirements keep getting higher. The jerks somehow think that by taking from the producers and giving to lazy we (the US) will be able to compete in a global market....

    The Vw passat is only assembled in TN... and it's been almost completely automated, and it's a non union shop. Engine from poland, transmission and drive train from Germany. Very, very few parts made in America. It's also got paper thin steel body parts, and the cheapest thinnest, softest paint job I've ever seen on a new car. It is painted in America, and the unibody is made and formed in America. The B7 version we get is made for 2 markets, North America and China. That's it, rest of world gets a much better version.
