Whacha talk like? Take the quiz

Here's a nice little time killer for the holidays. With a name like Hey y'all, you would figure I'm from the South. That is true, except I have been living in MN for over 4 years. Many people in MN just kind of stare and wonder what in the world I'm saying. No, it is not a strong accent. It is that I speak proper English

Take this quiz to see how you fair.

Here's my result. Yep, it placed me correctly on the map. My mother's from Alabama and I grew up in Charleston.

Wow. It placed me correctly in the city where I go to school/live in nine months of the year, and it gave me a city about an hour north of where I grew up.

Both cities are still pretty close to each other, and they have similar dialects, but still interesting.
Sometimes, I question the value of my content.

My wife took it but after living here in NZ for too long she couldn't remember how she pronounced some stuff. It moved her two states west so now she's a valley girl. I took it too and it turns out I'm a Jersey Boy. Who'd a thunk?

I have lived in the south most my life but my family is from Mn and I have lived all over this country so I have very little accent.

Anyways, when I was younger and had a little more draw/twang and would go to Mn people would ask where I was from. I would then ask them what they meant in which they would reply "you have an accent". In which I would reply to them "I don't have an accent, you have an accent".

BTW, it put me in Orlando, St Petersburg and Tampa.
Although I have never lived in Florida, it makes sense because I have lived all over the country and Florida is the melting pot of the country.

I tested it in Firefox and Chrome. Both worked, but not in an expected manner. It took close to a minute for the map to show up. In fact, I gave up on chrome thinking it was the problem. I clicked random answers in firefox. When I went back to chrome to report the bad news here, the map was showing. I think went to firefox and it was there too.

I'll try again later to get the final answer but what was interesting was that many of my answers didn't seem to line up with where I grew up or live now. I wonder if my life has been an illusion?

I finally got the map to work and it looks like my dialect is that of central california around Stockton. I'm originally from CO which according to the map is very similar.

That's because you're a psychopath in disguise and the Chupacabra thing only reinforces the facts.

There are some hotspots in the south west. Perhaps snow birds that settled in? Or, too much time on the the internet has led to a loss of identity

I took it a few days ago, and got Denver/Aurora and Jackson, MS. Never been to Jackson, but only passed through the Denver area a couple times.

Took it again today and got a few new questions, which placed me with the following map. I'd say this is closer, but still not quite right. Grew up in IN and have spent a good bit of time in several southern states (TN, NC, TX). My mother grew up mostly in FL. I DO have a lot of ancestors in SW MN, so that makes a good bit of sense. But really I've only spent about 3-4mo of my life west of the rockies so the only thing that explains that is that most people out west came from somewhere else and therefore don't have strong linguistic ties to much of anywhere.

What's funny is that I lived for a few years in Pittsburgh. Apparently, NONE of that dialect has rubbed off on me.

Whacha talk like? Take the quiz

I took that this morning - ended up with Iowa and Eastern Nebraska. I was born in the Midwest and then grew up in Colorado... I would say it's pretty close...
