When I lived in Japan, my girlfriend (now wife) and I used to road trip to this awesome spot for waves and partying called the Izu Peninsula. Depending on which route we took we might have to take the bridge shown below. The first time we saw it we were whooping it up like little kids.

This Thread is all about Bridges-loopbridge01.jpg

"How do you build a bridge on a mountainside when the grade is so steep that a linear ramp isnít possible? Build a loop, and if one is not enough, build two. This is what engineers did when the built the Kawazu-Nanadaru Loop Bridge, also known as the Japanese Double loop spiral, in Kawazu, Japan. This double spiral brings cars up and down a full 45 meters while being seemingly suspended in a valley between two mountainsides. The spirals measure 80m in diameter and the whole ramp section is 1.1km long.

The bridge on Highway 414 between Tokyo and the Izu peninsula was finished in 1982 and has become a well known landmark since."

Thegweed awesome bridge it looks like a roller coaster.

This bridge is called the Rainbow Bridge in Rainbow California. A very small town Just north of San Diego on I-15. The gateway to the larger city of Temecula. It always impressed me every time I drove under or over it as it appears to be free standing and is an architectural wonder.

Where I grew up,famous bridge during a flood. Bridge was built in the early 1900's. Had earthquakes in 92 that condemned other bridges, and closed this one because the ground dropped around it, but the bridge was structurally sound. Was featured in the movie Outbreak.

DJ, the second pic in post #32, is that the bridge from Duke's of Hazard, or was it in some lame ar$e movie like the Bridges of Madison County. It looks very familiar (not that I have seen said lame ar$e movie of course) [$hit, the hole is getting deeper]

So I'm guessing most of you would think Sydney Harbour Bridge when thinking of bridges down my way so I won't clog the pages with pics you've all seen before. Here, OC, is Sea Cliff Bridge on Lawrence Hargrave Dirve, about 40 minutes south of Sydney on the coast at Coal Cliff.

It was built to duplicate a road that had more than its fair share of closures caused by rock slides

You can see the line of the old road in the top pic.

That said, the bridges I love the most are the old style hardwood bridges we have on so many country roads here, crossing low in the valley, just above small creeks. The kind with no gaurdrails, the ones that make the whole car shake as each wheel rumbles onto the next sleeper.

well then perhaps see it before condemning it would be sound advice.

Those traveling across the country on Highway 89A between Bitter Springs and Jacob Lake, AZ arrive at two bridges similar in appearance spanning the Colorado River. These two bridges, one historic and one new, represent one of only seven land crossings of the Colorado River for 750 miles (1207 km).
