Almost 80 today in San Diego. Screw this, I can't roast chestnuts on an open A/C vent.

Visited my in-laws then hit the local trails. The aftermath of the recent ice storm caused a lot of damage (trees down, and broken branches).

I want everybody in colder climates to beware of icycles. I've seen some pretty huge scary ones dangling from rooftops, etc. Stay away from them on trail rides too.

How do you deal with the sameness? No change day to day, month to month, season to season. It must be terrible.

Yes, it's so depressing having no limit as to what you can do 365 days a year here. Everyone should probably avoid coming here.

I like your way of thinking. Trick the mind into thinking its like SoCal weather year round. Now I understand how y'all can deal with living in all the other parts of the world. Mind over matter. You see snow, you thinking you're seeing things. You see sunny skies, you feel warm. Got it!

Same sort of mental trickery is what makes the 2:30 bar closing getting lucky scenario work out.

I actually prefer riding in the twenties, rather than July-August riding in the nineties and hundreds, with 95% humidity. Riding in THAT takes the mental fortitude. It is quite misreable. Riding in the cold is easier to me.

Here's a Wintertime formula for you. Multiply the actual temps by 2 and you'll feel much more comfortable!

Just buy good base layer clothes, is all you need to do to stay warm! And to me, making sure my face and neck is covered from wind...oh, and a good skull-cap that is thermal. It's amazing what good cold weather gear allows you to do.

Also, those chemical warmers you put in your gloves and socks, those things work good. In fact, you can see two of them on my dash in the picture. I threw them up there after yesterday's ride, and forgot them...there still there right now!

One station in Santee (East San Diego county) is reporting 88 F and 13% humidity.

I can't believe I'm thinking it's too hot to ride THE DAY AFTER F'N XMAS!!

Seriously, though, with the dryness and winds in the mountains -- I'm praying for no fires.

We reached 29 today  I'm going to wait for it to get colder so that everything is firmer. The roads were heavily salted last night so we have brown soup everywhere.

Oh yes the beauty of San Diego county. In Santee [east county ] it will be 10 - 15 hotter than at the
coast. Micro climates are abuntant throughout, temperature changes from within just a mile or two of eachother.

Around 70 and clear blue skies here in the Old Pueblo today. Just beautiful! Did a 4 hour '8 Days of Xmas' ride with the guys, and it was perfect! Anyone looking to get a change from the freeze, and enjoy all the best rides in this area needs to head down here for the informal series of rides we all put on at this time of year. Tucsonmtb.com has all the details!

I usually search on Santee because it is closest to where I ride or hike. That one station (Carlton Hills GC) seemed a little warm and sure enough, other stations were reporting in the low 80s.

Yeah it's been at least 10 degrees cooler at the coast, which would be odd for a Santa Ana weather pattern (when coast & inland temps usually very close). BUT -- ocean temps are below 60 F which is much lower than during typical Santa Ana "season." So that's cooling the coast quite a bit.

Hey DJ, do you remember the Santee Lakes dirt bike trails?

Yes but I never rode them, I did used to jet ski every weekend for ten years at El Capitan Reservoir right up the hill from there.
